Stojche Cvetanovski (nacido en 1984 en Skopje, Macedonia) es sólo un rebelde común y corriente atrapado en el caos urbano del siglo XXI. El factor desencadenante que lo inspiró fue la escena techno underground local en Skopje. Una ciudad descrita por Derrick May y Juan Atkins como “el principal centro del techno de Detroit en la península de los Balcanes”. La expansión de los sonidos de la ciudad del motor en la capital macedonia y su manía por los discos de vinilo impulsaron a Stojche a explorar su camino y profundizar en este fenómeno musical futurista. Después de una década dedicada a ser DJ, pasó a producir y en 2009 cofundó “Argumento Music”.

Es uno de los nombres del circuito europeo que se abrió paso con contribuciones a sellos como A.r.t.less, Syncrophone, Conform, Subwax, Mutual Rytm, entre otros. En 2011 lanzó su sello en solitario “Tangible Assets”. Una salida que le ha dado la libertad de explorar y refinar sus producciones dobladas influenciadas por Detroit. “Tangible Assets” refleja una declaración personal con un énfasis en el aprecio por la historia del techno. Su discografía lo marcó como uno de los nombres que todavía está impulsando la envoltura atemporal del legado inicial del “hi-tech soul”.

Por el contrario, sus sesiones de DJ proporcionan una prueba más de los años que pasó detrás de los tocadiscos, lo que resultó en viajes intensos con una dosis de contenido emocional. Su constante búsqueda de inspiración se equilibra con el pulso de la vida de la ciudad. Stojche Cvetanovski (born in 1984 in Skopje, Macedonia) is just a regular rebel trapped in the urban chaos of the 21st century. The trigger factor that inspired him, was the local underground techno scene in Skopje. A city described by Derrick May and Juan Atkins as “the leading hub for Detroit techno on the Balkan Peninsula”. The expansion of the motor city sounds in the Macedonian capital and his mania for vinyl records triggered Stojche to explore his path and dig deeper in this futuristic music phenomenon. After a decade devoted to djing, he shifted to producing, and in 2009 he co-founded “Argumento Music”.

He is one of the names on the European circuit that broke through with contributions to labels like A.r.t.less, Syncrophone, Conform, Subwax, Mutual Rytm, alongside others. In 2011 he launched his solo imprint “Tangible Assets”. An outlet that has given him the freedom to explore and refine his trademark Detroit – influenced dubbed out productions. “Tangible Assets” reflects a personal statement with emphasized appreciation for the techno history. His discography marked him as one of the names that is still pushing forward the timeless envelope of the initial “hi-tech soul” legacy.

In contrast, his dj sets provide further evidence of years spent behind the turntables, resulting in pounding journeys with a dose of emotional content. His constant pursuit for inspiration sits balanced with the pulse of the city life. Locked away in his studio in Madrid where passion and process all catalyze into waveforms of intense voyages, executed by a man who is well in tune with his craft.

Today’s mix is served by Helsinki based MIIA MAGIA. Starting with her pure love for music, collecting records and clubbing lead her to become one of the pioneering female figures in the Finnish club scene. Her musical journey took her through 90’s UK alternative rock and 00’s Nu Disco and House, finally arriving into today’s classic Deep House and Techno.

Living and breathing the Stockholm underground club and rave scene between 2015-2019 refined her skills as a DJ and ignited the start of her own label Motto Sono with Mr. Barth (aka. Cari Lekebusch). Miia best describes her own style of playing as “deep and moody, sharp and groovy”. Her addition to the mix series is a perfect example of this description, however, classy and unique are words we would still add to this. Kickstart your weekend with this strong mix by MIIA MAGIA.

We are pleased to present our thirtieth set on #CommonSenseRecords with Elena, also known as Alienata. This talented Spanish DJ and producer, currently based in Berlin, brings us a one-hour mix filled with the explosive groove that defines her.

JakoJako (@jakojako_live) always wanted to make music and her self-confessed hyperactivity ultimately led to her getting the most joy out of playing about with machines and patching up synths. These days the Berghain resident is a celebrated live act and DJ who draws on the considerable knowledge she picked up working at Berlin's legendary synth shop SchneidersLaden, but she has also worked on several high-profile motion sensor dance projects at places like The Royal Albert Hall. Her smart sound designs and unique rhythms have landed on Leisure System, Tresor and Figure and she has a new EP coming on Mute this June.

Her mix for us this week features a sneak preview of one of the tracks from that EP as well as mixing up music from Alaric, Siege, Altinbas and many more. It's full of high-speed sounds couched loosely in techno but with moods and textures borrowed from industrial, minimal and even trance as things reach an emotional peak late on. Though she broke through as a live act, this set shows JakoJako can now speak just as freely through the decks.

Una de las figuras más respetadas por todos, desde principios de los años 80's la música electrónica ha sido su forma de vida, desde entonces y con ya más de 30 años de carrera ha llegado a actuar en eventos tan importantes como Movement Festival de Detroit, Sonar, Berghain, además de haber viajado por todo el mundo con su música. 

Y no solo esto, Luis Rozalen es una fuente inagotable de conocimiento, siendo una de las figuras que más se implica en dar a las nuevas generaciones todo su conocimiento, una mente inquieta que también es habitual leer sus colaboraciones como escritor de los mejores portales de electrónica.

1981 an eleven year old kid gets a gift, that is the New Life 7 inch by Depeche Mode, from that very moment the cold beats of drum machines and the alien sounds of synthesizers are the soundtrack of his life, until today.

Living the eighties as a teenager, he absorbs every futuristic and dark sound as a fan, new wave, goth, proto EBM, classics like Kraftwerk or Tangerine Dream ...

1987 marks the switch from being pasive to being active, he gets his first synth and drum machine combo as a christmas gift from their parents, a second hand Kawai Sx 240 keyboard and a Korg kpr 77 drum machine, and starts making his own noises and beats from scratch. Soon he forms his first music project, called Ballet Mecánico, with his two fellows Groof and Daniel Erbe.

Heavily synth pop influenced in the beginning, their sound soon moves to darker territories after discovering Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb and later moving into proto rave sounds via the Frequencies album by LFO or the Yellow album by Orbital, as well as those lovely Detroit compilations released in the UK by Network records: Bio Rhythm and Retro techno amomg others. This project last until the mid nineties and left two vinyl releases.

1995 is when his solo career as Hd Substance starts, releasing a track on the Electronic Generators compilation, a showcase of spanish techno pioneers at the moment, on Geometrik records, home of the seminal industrial cult band Esplendor Geométrico a stepping stone to his debut album Eleven on the also cult label Elefant Records.

After more than 20 years in the bussines, more than 30 Ep’s and six full lenght albums, Hd Substance is still here as a full actor in the scene, writing, composing, remixing and playing electronic beats all over the globe, as live performer or as traditional beatmatching dj. An entire life devoted to electronic music in any form.

Born in Algeria, and raised between France and the Netherlands, with a later stint in London, Mary Lake has lived a life through the lens of different cultures, each adding a little more to her experience in the realm of electronic music. It wasn’t always her medium, but in DJing she’s found her most authentic voice, with her start at more intimate house parties, then on to the best and brightest of Dutch clubs and festivals. For her, creative discovery and expanding the limits of craft is key, covering both the range of utilitarian techno and more atypical sounds, the likes of which she was apt to share via her experimental pandemic-era radio show Worshipping Discordia. Alongside that, and a slew of catchy releases, she’s now a Spielraum resident and frequently billed on stages from Dekmantel to De School to Tresor, Bassiani and beyond. Her percussive techno spreads the kind of wildly infectious crowd energy that drew a younger her towards it many moons ago, now she's on the inside looking out. I have never released this recording, but as I work on new and old Makam material and continue to enjoy this memory from the past, I wanted to share it with you.
