Buttechno's ability to manipulate sound and massage rhythm into new forms is laid bare in this week's mix. It starts off as deep and atmospheric - swampy dub, sub-aquatic bass, funky static electricity - and then slowly morphs into more fulsome body music. It's never less than a warm, elastic take on techno that is stripped back but packed with an inviting and playful charm.

Shjva is a Ukrainian artist, the founder of the label Penumbrum, based in Warsaw. Shjva has firmly established herself on the Polish electronic scene as a talented artist and representative of Ukrainian musical culture. Her recent performance at the Community Event stood out for its hyper-immersive tech house and progressive, low-frequency goa-sound, and expressive trance vibes.

Before the Curfew is a series of music podcasts that emerged in 2022 after the reopening of the club following the liberation of the Kyiv region. All recordings presented in this series take place before midnight before the curfew begins. Before the Curfew offers a vibrant snapshot of the Ukrainian music scene amidst challenging times, celebrating resilience, creativity, and unity through music.

The new set from the Before The Curfew series features Recid B2B Roman K at Backyard on the 30th of September 2023, is now available on our SoundCloud. 

The cover photo is one of the last shots taken by Roman K on the southern coast of Crimea after the annexation. That day, there was a storm at sea, which symbolically represented the pain, fear, and protest against the events of 2014.

This set marks the first time these two friends have reunited behind the decks, having been away from their hometown and loved ones for a long time. They always have a lot to talk about without using words.

@shjva — одна з продюсерок і диджейок, які все активніше заявляють про себе на українській сцені. Свій перший сет вона відіграла в рідному Луцьку — місті, яке, зокрема, вплинуло на формування її звучання. Майже вісім років тому поїхала вчитись до Польщі, де вела радіопрограму TRANSERFING, заснувала з друзями лейбл PENUMBRUM, а також стала однією з ключових фігур так званої мігрантської сцени. «Ця сцена досить самостійна й динамічна, і відчувається, що для нас це своєрідна ностальгія. Усі ми дивимось на українську сцену і розділяємо її цінності», — пояснює Shjva.

Для нового епізоду True Music Scene від DTF Magazine та Ballantine’s Shjva записала спеціальний мікс: «Це мої улюблені платівки плюс кілька локальних треків від моїх друзів, зокрема з нашого лейблу. Вийшла досить динамічна історія».
