Entanglement w/ DJ Papaya - June 2025

My Nowadays Nonstop set from Juneteenth weekend is now available to listen back to.

For it, I considered Black Excellence in a moment where the US and many institutions quickly - though certainly not surprisingly - cast aside their annual Pride and Juneteenth virtue signaling to capitulate to the current administration’s authoritarian and racist agenda. This context makes it urgently necessary FOR US to take charge of preserving narratives BY US. This “DEI Mix” is made up of 99% Black voices who have inspired me, are a part of my daily life, and/or, importantly, Black artists, like myself, who are constant participants in and contributors to the New York dance music/nightlife scene. Often without proper recognition. We all collectively make up the history of now. From my experiences in positions of distinct convergence in this community, like my tenure at The Lot Radio, I’ve come across so many voices that deserve to be heard and preserved.  

Tonally, I’d say the set is mercurial and seething, brimming with tension and mindful of the state of the dance floor at the beginning of the night. Starting with an empty dance floor and pacing the rise to a euphoric club was top of mind. Yet, my tongue-in-cheek sensibilities, ever present in my productions and selections, poke through too…Future of course. Truly a dream of mine to play that track in that room. 

Thank you to everyone who came out to support me, sent me kind messages, and danced through my first set inside one of my favorite clubs.
