Simultaneously one of the most low key, but also one of the sickest DJs in Naarm, I'm so happy to have Nic / nmez ( @incmac ) as part of the Animix series.

Having been involved in organising some of Melbourne's most iconic raves over the last few years, Nic is an integral member of the community. His collection of deep, dub & bassy tunes never fails to impress me. For his Animix is an hour of sexy deep jungle/ dub-steppy heaven ---- a perfect soundtrack to your mini Melbourne lockdown, or hopefully for a sunny spring day if you're listening from the northern hemisphere :-)

Animix Thirty Four: nmez

I was first turned on to Goa music in the early 90s, young and innocent, discovering the communal state of trance for the first time. Back then I wasn’t interested in its roots or it’s origins and preferred to get lost in music not thinking of the days to come or those gone by.
When it all became formulaic and a genre as such, things started to lose their magic and I begun to explore sounds of the past, turning my nose up at something which for me had lived it’s course…
I dived into a whole new sonic horizon, old relics which sounded new to me and more interesting than a lot of contemporary releases. Unconsciously, I was drawing a map which covered many seminal dancefloors worldwide. I would later find out that the distance between most of these tracks had no boundaries as they could just as well have been played in Chicago, Manchester, Gent, Ibiza, Baia Degli Angeli, or Goa…
This mix can be listened to like a GPS directing you towards those places, somewhere in the mid 80s, with Goa as the meeting point and final destination. Funnily enough it is also very close to the first mixes that helped put my name on the map almost 20 years ago…

Thea HD is based in Leeds and has been working in music for over ten years, from running her own independent Odda Recordings label to heading A&R and label management at The Leaf Label. Her sets are a continuous exploration of a wide variety of genres, from glitch, dub to soul and library music as well as lesser known experimental electronics. Her shows on NTS showcase her eclectic tastes as well as her adventurous musical stance, diving into and bypassing trends to come up with an ever-shifting perspective on what a DJ set can be.
