Welcome to a new edition of The OA Transmissions on Mutant Radio. The OA - 2024 Transmissions will primarily highlight artists from our recent tape compilation, celebrating the label's 10th anniversary. In this episode, we're excited to feature two artists, MEAM and SDEM, both hailing from the North and affiliated with the mighty Skam Records.

In the first hour, we welcome Andy Jackson from MEAM. Their 2003 mini-album "the L" on Skam remains a standout moment for the label. Andy's set will range from 'early MEAM stuff' to more recent work. Next, we have Tom Knapp, aka SDEM, whose roots in Hull's 80s metal and hip-hop scene shaped his musical journey. You'll hear some of these influences in today’s set.

NYC label Palto Flats focuses on a carefully selected program of reissues and new material, bringing attention to the intersection of pop, electronic, experimental and world music. The label’s intent is to work with artists on music that is both accessible and idiomatic, bringing these constructive contrasts to light. This show is an exploration of those forms, and will periodically feature guest selectors from diverse musical backgrounds.

I wanted to create something that had a vibrant, summery yet dope feeling and it just so turned out id been subconsciously collecting the right tunes to make that happen.

My first rave experiences were to the sounds of Drum n’ Bass and although I’ve strayed from the genre and now love and play other stuff, I think my non 4/4 roots come through in most things that I do. I like the versatility and experimentation of a breakbeat and feel it leaves more room to play - both behind and in front of the DJ booth.

I co-founded two projects here in Berlin, Double Trouble and FACILITATE. For Double Trouble, we do two versions of the night, one being focussed on the art of _baerchenwurst_, displayed on a backdrop of ambient music at our cute hangout spot Kwia and the other is pure party at Zur Klappe. We focus on bass music and are FLINTA so that plays a big role in the curation. I run the night together with DJ Doc and we started in December 2022. 

FACILITATE. I run together with DJ NORTHERN and we are a FLINTA Drum n’ Bass event which we started in November 2023. Both events were started to create more space for FLINTA DJ’s in the Berlin bass music scene, to make more space for bass loving queers on the dance floor and also just because we love it!

A welcome accompaniment to the warmer climes breathing through at the moment, @chanel-beads' selections draw from the same R&B laced lo-fi indie ambience Lavers has carved out for himself with a host of seemingly disparate yet ultimately cohesive selection taking in Van Morrison, ML Buch, his own edit of Caroline Polachek, Blawan, Tirzah and John T.
