The committee “Justice pour Sourour” and the Pacifique Records music platform is launching a series of compilations to raise awareness on the fight against police violence and collect funds to ensure justice for Sourour: beloved sister, mother, daughter, and friend, who died in a police station in Brussels on January 12, 2023. For this first volume we’re bringing together friends and allies: artists of the experimental and bass music scene, each presenting a track.   The fight we’re waging is relentless, we need to keep everyone’s attention so that the struggle doesn’t lose momentum, so that even more people feel concerned and join us, and so that similar violence can never happen again. We want to believe in a united, supportive and politicised music scene. As artists, musicians and cultural actors, and with your support, we can play a precious role in this fight.

'Huiracchuro' is the first single taken from the EP 'Aviario', out on the 23rd February.

'Aviario' is a collaborative EP by Ecuadorian electronic music producers Entrañas and Ene Ese, alongside visual artist Destello. The release coalesces the unique sonic palette, textures and rhythms of Ecuadorian music with the darkness of Club and Bass music. Taking influence from bird species inhabiting the diverse ecosystems of Ecuador, Entrañas and Ene Ese seamlessly transmute delicately layered soundscapes and birdsong into cutting drum patterns, creating invigorating compositions that spotlight the rich musical heritage of Ecuador and its natural environment.

'Aviario' ranges sonically from moments of ambient textural exploration in 'Trogón', to dance floor ready tracks such as the single 'Huiracchuro' where overdriven melodies weave between sultry drums making heavy use of 6/8 polyrhythms found in Ecuadorian genres such as Albazo and Bomba. The third track 'Curiquingüe' features additional composition from producer Zunfo.

The EP is accompanied by six corresponding artworks by Destello, who reimagines the colours and forms of the birds into candescent abstractions.

San Fransisco-based artist DJ JUANNY brings the essence of his newly-launched Amor Digital parties to the 909 series. 

Formerly known as JUANNY DEPP, DJ JUANNY's musical journey began in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury district where he worked at a clothing and sneaker shop that was a hotspot for notable Bay Area DJs who played sets and sold mixtapes, igniting JUANNY's obsession with DJing. Following that initial introduction via the DJ sets played in-store, JUANNY begun attending Monday night parties featuring two SF DJs, Segundo and Cellus, who played off the computer or Novation Twitch, bringing a DIY punk culture to DJing through the often political messages they were channeling through the microphone. This experience opened JUANNY's eyes to a more open-minded approach to DJing where there were no rules, no need for formal training and the freedom to approach it in whichever way he liked. You can see how this ethos has shone through in his productions where he often brings together his influences from the sounds of Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and the UK and blends them with samples from films, TV and pop culture. A very sick collage and oftentimes archival approach to production that gives JUANNY an opportunity to re-contextualise pop culture references as well as use vocals in his productions as it's very rare that he uses his own. It was the onset of the pandemic that allowed JUANNY the space and time to deep dive into his productions with a string of self-releases before landing on renowned labels such as N.A.A.F.I, NO BIAS, and now Poland's Basy Tropikalne with his most recent EP 'Petrolhead'. It's super inspiring and refreshing to hear his take on production and how he brings all of his interests together into one release - a similar approach to his DJ sets too as he spans several genres in one mix but all with this high energy through line to get the party started. 

In 2020, DJ JUANNY launched a DJ and design collective called Amor Digital which also exists as a record label and now party series. The first release on the label was a fundraiser compilation with the money raised going towards relief funds in Honduras in response to the hurricane and featured tracks from Bored Lord, river moon, Nick León, COLD MEDINA, and DRIADO. The label has since released records from J. Córdova, ALOCASIA, and a bunch of JUANNY's own releases.

Metathesis is a shifting of positions in motion. With this EP, Microhm wraps up a trilogy of sonic narratives exploring a quest for Latin American futurism, unleashed onto the dance floor as a contemporary ritual. This trilogy, released throughout 2024, kicks off with Desvanecer, presented by Infinite Machine, followed by Entrelazada and Metathesis under Terminal. It’s a progression of intensities, rhythms, and forms that explores into the blending of genres and techniques.

In Metathesis, hydrophone recordings and marine sounds collected by the artist in various areas of Baja California are sculpturally deformed to create the textures, atmospheres, and melodic foundations that accompany the rhythmic structures of dembow, reggaeton, and polyrhythmic techno variants. These are generated using the artist’s classic set of algorithmic tools and analog synthesis techniques that she typically employs in her productions.
