He now draws upon his musicality and eclectic taste as a DJ to present and expansive vision of dance music, bridging the past with the present. James is the co-founder and resident of the Planet Love party, and a regular in the queer underground of Los Angeles. He's made recent appearances at Sunday Sunday in CDMX, Por Detroit in LA, and Le Bain in NYC.

Been a minute since I've visited this mix series, but over the past year at Mercy Me in DC I've been playing more and more upper mid tempo Deep House joints and felt the universe was telling me to create a mix so everyone can enjoy.

London's Moxie (@djmoxie) has always embodied a fearless approach to DJing. Her sets are driven by her famously eclectic taste and can go from deep Detroit techno to face-melting bass via loved-up disco in an instant. She made her name as one of the earliest hosts on NTS Radio but is now a favourite of the global underground who has often impressed at our own events. Her "Moxie Presents" compilations have shown her dedication to championing forward-thinking artists and have helped make her a genuine new school tastemaker.

This week Moxie has put together a breezy jaunt through many different facets of her sound. There are balmy summer pads and carefree house beats to start with then things head indoors for deeper, darker sounds but always saved up with plenty of warmth and emotion. This mix is a perfect encapsulation of how Moxie can take you from the early evening to late into the night without you even noticing.

When it comes to music, meaning can be found anywhere and may come in many forms, all of them involving some level of emotional contact. A shared ecstatic journey on a dancefloor driven by the talents of a good DJ or an intimate moment of epiphany in our headphones ignited by an unexpected discovery have a common energy source: the unique power that organised soundwaves have to create and conjure memories at the same time. One that is deeply transformative as it is universally understandable, hence why it is our preferred mode of communication, here and elsewhere. It runs through this whole endeavour while it tries to channel and disseminate its energy across a global circuit made up of passionate minds and able hands on one end and eager ears and desirous bodies on the other. A precious connection made real at every episode and truer in occasions such as this one, when we have a guest with a body of work and ethic that carry the very values and vision that fuel our own. Mark Gill is just the kind of lad we love having among us, be it here in this series or at any booth or festive setting we might have experienced together around the world.
