When he was young, he started his music career based on such as ROCK and INDIE.

He was mainly inspired by disco music,
usually play Nudisco, Shibuya Kei, etc.

In a [2011 New York Times article](https://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/23/magazine/the-fierce-imagination-of-haruki-murakami.html?pagewanted=5&ref=baseball), Murakami estimated that he owns 10,000 records, but was too afraid to count. Music is elemental to the atmosphere of the stories he creates, his works filled with quotations, references and inspiration from the music world; even entire novels are structured around musical pieces, as with 1Q84.

His signature sound transmutes a postmodern patchwork of samples – R&B vocals, video game soundtracks, field-recorded ephemera, and organic percussive elements – into a club melancholia that could only come from London.
