Dj Juanny draws inspiration from the sounds of Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and the UK, blending them with samples from films, TV and pop culture.

Of Honduran and Salvadoran descent, Juanny grew up in a household where his parents filled the air with salsa and merengue, while his sister introduced him to rap, R&B and Miami bass. His passion for music took shape in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury district. While working at a revered streetwear shop -- a hotspot for notable Bay Area DJs who played in-store sets and sold mixtapes -- Juanny became obsessed with DJing. He soon started throwing parties, spinning tracks sourced from the more obscure corners of Soundcloud.

After a stint living in Miami, Juanny became passionate about bringing the emerging club
sounds of his adopted home back to the Bay Area. This led to the creation of the party series and netlabel, Amor Digital.

In early 2020, he dove into music production, self-releasing a string of EPs. His 4-track EP 'SUCHITOTO' was released via the seminal Mexico City label, N.A.A.F.I., followed by his first vinyl release, the 4-track EP 'MIATA', on the Oakland label NO BIAS. Juanny also hosts monthly radio shows on Lower Grand Radio and HydeFM. 

“This mix was therapeutic in many ways! In my experience, recording a mix is either hella seamless -- done in one take -- or a project I obsess over for weeks. I set out to make something cohesive but I didn't want to overthink it. I told myself I'd do it in one take or go home and try again another time. Ended up with seventy minutes of experimental club music with roots in the Americas! Lots of tracks via TraTraTrax and Putivuelta. 

Generally, I think I find a sweet spot somewhere between dembow, guaracha, baile funk and UK bass-heavy sounds.”
