Purple Noon Vol. 14 - Marwan Filali

Hazy summer night session for no. 71 here, recorded in London in the middle of July and featuring a lot of records and tapes brought back from a recent Japan trip by Alex Yiaxis aka Fantasy In Orbit. Alex is a heavy collector and an all round knowledgeable advocate of the good stuff. We guested on his Balamii show years ago and have been tipped off to multiple records by him since. One for a lazy bike ride, the portable JBL in the park or melted on the sofa. Heatwave material!

Next up at Edwin Music channel is Berlin-based producer and DJ @benediktfrey and his close friend @menqui with whom he co-runs the label R.i.O.

For EDWIN MUSIC CHANNEL, he joined forces with his friend Menqui, who is overseeing the administration for the R.i.O. label, is part of the Berlin-based Muting The Noise Record Store and Distribution crew, runs a radio show for Cashmere Radio and plays regular in all those small, but delicate Berlin bars and little dancefloor venues. Together they prepared an epic mix, created live and direct in Menqui’s living room, featuring all sorts of music from pop, Trip-Hop, and Hip-hop to free-tripping electronic grooves. Texas native Gi Gi deals in head-down propulsive music. He’s released on a cast of labels including Good Morning Tapes (AUS), Quiet Time (USA), and INDEX:Records (UK/DE). Utilizing a collage-based approach that takes in a wide swath of source material, the result is a peculiar strain of ambient dance music equally at home in headphones or the back rooms of a club. 

As a DJ, the introspection that characterizes his music echoes throughout, but the net is cast wider. The energy inches upwards, and styles that trace contours in his productions present themselves more directly. Gi Gi brings nuance and warmth to his DJing, nudging dancers towards reflection and loungers towards movement.

Juliana Kaiser's debut EP through Puddle is an ode to the 'Río de La Plata' with all of its sociopolitical & environmental contradictions. On it, field recordings from the river and its surrounding areas intertwine with subtle and minimalistic synth lines creating a gentle narrative where the listener is free to navigate the space and complete the landscape with what is suggested but not said.
