endobliss [„XOXO, c’est la résistance“]

@nozagam is a solo project by French experimental-club producer Etienne Zastko who takes a bleak view of a destructive Anthropocene Epoch, in which “utopias can’t exist and we’ve lost our way in our blind devotion to technology”. The album pieces together a chronology of catastrophic events. A fictionalized soundtrack to humankind’s end-cycle. The abrasive textures and suffocating atmosphere immerse us into a total universe where everything that could have gone wrong has. Affirmations and tech bro optimism didn’t quite cut it. And if those disembodied voices that sporadically reach out are the survivors, that’s not good news.

The visual aesthetic of Zagam is one of fusion, a medieval plague doctor mask with a 23rd-century twist. “Anthropocene” mines a similarly disparate set of influences, spanning an evermore hybridized clubspace. Gqom, grime, industrial techno, footwork: everything is fair game. The rich musical background and hard sonic palette of Zagam make for a perfect match for the hybrid electronics approach of Unizone.

Seasonal Sounds is a seasonal programme which aims to do a sonic interpretation of the current (and coming) season - both in terms of pace, seasonal events and its characteristics. It combines a variety of musical genres, sonic textures and field recordings in a mix for the season. 

Seasonal Sounds #6 dives deep into the emotional landscape of spring, blending fragile sounds, acoustic instruments, harsh textures and shifting tempos. This episode aims to encapsulate the vulnerable yet resilient essence of spring, marking the transition from hibernation into lighter and longer days - May the spring be bright for ALL of us. Join us in this otherworldly (and fun) place that Seasonal Sounds #6 wants to paint for your years. SPRING.

Landjakaku takes you on a journey through a metaphysical space where pitched and playful voices guide you into a lysergic world.
Intricate and unusual percussive elements, seemingly shaped from the ground itself, create a mesmerizing and quirky groove.

The first track begins with wobbly and watery sounds that evoke the strange and wondrous nature surrounding you. These sounds blend seamlessly with a complex 7/8 rhythm. This intriguing beginning lays the foundation for the adventure ahead, as the energy builds progressively throughout the EP.
The second track introduces a wacky dancehall groove with rolling, stoned drums, creating an hypnotic and captivating atmosphere.
The third track leans towards a more tropical and playful vibe, infusing the EP with moments of lightheartedness. The final track bring you into a spicy footwork closing the journey on a note that is both esoteric and electrifying.

La Forêt des Amantes was born in a daydream. “At night, under the shining moon of silver, I ran in a forest with the one I love,” describes experimental artist Yasmine des Astres. Arriving at music by necessity, rather than by intention, Yasmine des Astres arranges her voice, live instrumentation and synthesis into cinematic assemblage, drawing as much from filmmaker Philippe Grandrieux, philosopher Georges Bataille and Sufi mystics like Ibn Arabi, Jalal al-Din Muhammad Rumi and Mansour al-Hallaj, as she does any particular sound. 

Despite this, the artist remains fiercely opposed to overly academic approaches to her art. Entirely self-taught, her DIY practice emerges as the consolidation of years of personal discovery. Dropping out of school at 15, suffering severe social anxiety, the artist took solace in her mother’s rap cassettes, instilling in her a love for hip hop instrumentals. Before long she was digging for samples online to make her own beats. At the age of 16 she discovered the transcendent Gnosticism of Sun Ra, which shifted her entire worldview forever. However it was the artist’s love of cinema, in particular the films of Robert Bresson, that truly taught her what it means to be an artist. Bresson’s legendary text ‘Notes On The Cinematograph’ helped Yasmine des Astres construct a vision of art with which she could connect her sensations to her emotions. 

Specifically, the image of running through a forest at night kept returning to her, a vision she initially understood as a need for freedom, but which gradually developed into a deeper, more intense understanding. Chasing “desire as a liberating and enlightening force,” her dream of liberation became one of sexual exploration and self destruction, while La Forêt des Amantes grew into The Forest of Lesbian Lovers. “It is a dream made out of my lesbian devotion,” the artist asserts. “A desire to annihilate myself through the lesbian I would love.” Citing kindred spirit Obsequeen and Japanese experimental noise rock oddities Les Rallizes Dénudés as sonic influences, with La Forêt des Amantes Yasmine des Astres picks her way through an expansive sonic terrain of effects-laden vocals and off-kilter electronics. 
 “The album is about yearning,” she explains. “The forest doesn’t exist, it is not a forest we know. It is an absence. An absence of civilization, an absence of politics, just two lesbians and the universe around them.”
