Think Fast! (OUTDATED)

This was written during 2020, and was largely a response to popular fan theories about Noelle's role in Chapter 2 being bleak, dreary, or otherwise depressing. Not that we don't make the poor girl suffer in TSTP or anything, but I felt as though the mood surrounding my favourite fictional deer person was a little too dour for my tastes, so a happier theme tune was in order.

Inspired by gospel music, a genre I admittedly only have a passing knowledge of from pop culture and my exposure to Pentecostal music as a child listening to my uncle play drums for his local church on weekend stays, this is a theme for Noelle that I intend on making into a base for future motifs and themes. The logic behind it is best described by the culinary arts; this is the mother sauce, and all themes after this one are your marinaras, cheese sauces, Bearnaise, and so on. By making the base theme more cheerful, I hope to make Noelle's story seem more optimistic and hopeful. Like I said before, she's going to be going through a lot, and it'll be happening sooner than you think.

Another inspiration was, weirdly enough, Aeris' theme from FFVII. This was born from a habit of mine I got in college where I would combine two different songs from different games/genres/mediums because they share the same tempo and key (my most recent example of this is Anakin's Betrayal from Revenge of the Sith and Soul of Cinder from Dark Souls 3, it's surprisingly fitting). Because I often do this "live" on the piano, it expanded naturally from there.

This one's getting mega-scrapped. Nice song, but no way is this even going to remotely fit anything in TSTP, especially not the Noelle replacement, and the Lost Girl motif is the final nail in the coffin.

Near And Deer (OLD)

This track was completed some time in 2020, and the in-game version will sound somewhat different to this one. Think the pizza delivery minigame from Spiderman 2 on the PS2 for what I'm going for.

Minigames are something I generally enjoy, as they are best used as breathers and distractions from heavier and more serious segments of games. Some of my favourite games, such as the Yakuza series, are almost entirely made up of them, with the main story existing as an obligation rather than a selling point. While many of these track descriptions might give the impression that TSTP is a dour and grim experience, I plan on incorporating many minigames into the worlds that the Lightners will explore, most of them being optional. No, I won't be locking the best gear in the game behind them. No, the mandatory ones won't be a chore. No, I will not program a dancing/rhythm minigame, even at gunpoint.

What I especially love about this theme, wherever I choose to use it in the final game, is that it carefully balances between whimsy and terror, a situation that is fun but also a little harrowing. This gives me greater flexibility in where I place this theme, although admittedly I'm gravitating towards Chapter 2 for its slightly jazzier, urban qualities.

Thus Spoke The Prophecy is an independently produced game made by a small team of enthusiasts, which will be released for free upon completion. Originally a Deltarune fangame, it has since grown into its own thing, with a cast of entirely original characters, a distinctive aesthetic reminiscent of early PS1 RPGs, and a complex, nuanced narrative that will please veterans of the genre, as well as being a friendly introduction to newer players to the storytelling potential and depth of gameplay that RPGs have to offer.

TSTP started life as a series of speculations about the story of Deltarune, shortly after the release of Chapter 1. Several people contributed and built upon one another, until we had a cohesive and compelling narrative. With an original soundtrack being composed by myself and art provided by several good friends of mine, we have spent the last five years developing this project into a state where we feel comfortable sharing it with the world!
