Sometimes I wake up in a different bed, in a different city, at a different time. Everything around me is new and there is excitement about all the possibilities. But there’s also a bit of anxiety and maybe even dread. My anchor is gone, and I am drifting with the current, afloat among the unfamiliar waters. This is when I turn back towards music. Music that makes me feel like I am safe, serene and cosy. Music that I often call my home. This is precisely what I hear in the soft piano keys of the Norwegian pianist and composer Øystein Skar, who has announced his upcoming debut album, titled Hem. I may not know him as a person, and yet his playing makes me calm. I may not truly know his story, and yet his story’s somehow mine. And while I navigate the stormy weather, this ray of sunshine points the way. In these turbulent and truly anxious times, I turn back towards home. I turn back towards music.

Composed during winter’s embrace in his woodland home outside Oslo (I imagine a hushed sanctuary of a snow-draped retreat), the piece embodies the album’s central theme of homecoming – not merely to a physical place, but to essential truths long carried within. In its patient build and emotional resolution, “Levva” invites listeners into the intimate geography of Skar’s personal mindspace. The piece stands as testimony to what becomes possible when an artist, after years of outward exploration, turns the compass needle toward the territories of the heart.

"Levva, meaning “to live well,” is a longer, more experimental track blending classical, improvisational, and electronic music. Anchored by a synth arpeggiation and a piano melody, the piece has two parts with the second evolving into an expansive, percussive, and dreamy landscape created with an array of synths. Something Unique
In a forgotten corner of the cosmos, where the constellations still sing in ancient dialects, a creature without equal was born. She had no name, because no language could contain her. Her skin was liquid obsidian, her eyes two moons facing each other, and her voice... her voice was the perfect blend of a whale's sigh and the creak of a glacier.
The gods watched her with curiosity. She was not the daughter of any, nor a product of prophecy. She was something unique.
Humans, seeing her in dreams, called her a thousand names: inspiration, chaos, muse, shadow.
But she answered none of them. She only walked between planes, sowing questions.
One day, she descended to the mortal world. Not to rule, nor to save. Only to listen.
She sat on the top of a Basque mountain, where the wind speaks Basque, and waited.
Poets, musicians, children, and the elderly arrived. Each one offered her something: a song, a secret, a tear.
She took nothing. She just smiled, and when she did, the sky changed color.
Over time, they understood that her power lay not in what she did, but in what she provoked.
She was the mirror that doesn't reflect, the question that doesn't seek an answer, the spark that doesn't burn.
She was something unique. And when she left, she left behind a whisper that still floats in the air: "Don't look for me on maps. Find me in what you can't explain."

Resina is the alias of Karolina Rec, a cellist/ composer based in Warsaw, who signed to 130701 having sent in this album as a hugely impressive demo late last year. A very accomplished performer with a background in Polish underground music, this eponymous album is her solo debut and sees a rich, atmospheric re-imagining of a Polish music rooted in a feeling for indigenous nature / landscape and realised via an intuitive, experimental approach to playing.

Nailah Hunter is a multi-instrumentalist and composer from Los Angeles. She combines harp, synth, found sounds, and voice to create reflective sonic landscapes that promote healing and self-awareness for herself and the listener. Her ambient music conjures unique sonic locations forged by imagination, drawing listeners into a tranquil world of rest, contemplation and color.  Her recent releases include Bassin Bleu (Mexican Summer), Spells (Leaving Records), and Black Valhalla (single available on Bandcamp) which was created to support the Loveland Foundation.
