REVENGE

Like many, I have been touched at least on an emotional and intellectual side by the current events in Ukraine. A few naive questions circle in my mind: how is this possible in 2022, that there are still territorial wars, with an entire population taken as an hostage, how can we sleep at night while innocents are being murdered, how can we help, what lesson can we learn from this… and why are we not learning better from our history?

Our planet has so much to offer, we are so advanced with technology, science, medicine, and yet the humanity kills itself from the inside. 

My heart is filled with sadness, confusion, frustration and as an artist I have learnt to feed my creativity with emotions and feelings. Here’s UKRAINE, an artistic take on this horrible tragedy, made my with language, #Techno. It will sound aggressive, fast, sad, futuristic, hopeful, I am paying tribute to the Ukrainian people and challenged myself with a subgenre of Techno, rolling at 145bpm, fast, like the world we live in.

//What does your music mean to you?//
As an artist, making music is the most important part of how I can express myself. I started to make my own music only a couple of years ago after years of being a partygoer and a raver. All those years enjoying the music and the dancefloor was an important part of my self-expression and identity. Now that I not only consume music but also make my own, I feel that I can express myself in a way that was not available to me before.

//Where do you get your inspiration from / What inspires you?//
I get inspiration from my friends who are also DJs or musicians. When I’m able to exchange ideas with those around me, this affects me in a tremendous way. I am also heavily influenced by the inputs I get from the parties I attend and the music that I listen to day to day. Being part of a community, enjoying the dancefloor, all those things help me find my inspiration.

//What do you think needs to change in the scene?//
I just wish that especially the techno scene remembered and cherished more strongly its roots which are underground, radical, black and queer. Diversity is what makes creative spaces interesting. I think that initiatives like fem*vak are already supporting this by bringing more FLINTA* artists into the spotlight. As a way to contribute to this process myself, I composed this podcast only with tracks produced or remixed by FLINTA* artists alone or in collaboration.
