Performance note: Recordings from: Congrès de la Musique Arabe, Caire 1932.  Al Jawqa Al Iraqi - Iraqi Music Ensemble (Chalgi Baghdad) led by the most important Iraqi Maqam singer and composer Muhammad Al-Qubanchi (also spelled/transliterated ‘Al-Qubbanchi’ or ‘Al-Qubbānchi’).  Music: Taqsīms played by the melody instrument players of this ‘Chalgi Baghdad’ group. A taqsīm is an unmetered instrumental solo piece, based on a maqam scale and a composition, and contains improvisational elements (according to the ability of the player). The expert ‘ūd  player Izra Haron (is also called ‘Azouri ‘Afandi’, a master player from the village Azour in Lebanon) plays a ‘taqsīm ‘ūd lami’. After the conclusion of the piece the strings are plucked individually to show the tuning of the ‘ūd.
