HERE, TONITE is about taking control of your own life. The lyrics open with 'OK I get it, I start living in the present, I turned up, then came Armageddon'. Referring to the well known irony of finally feeling alright, then your life is turned upside down. It's a reminder to self that 'you are your own creator, pick up the reins and get off the conveyor'.

It was hard to choose a first single, but releasing ‘cute as hell’ on Valentine’s Day felt right. It’s an anti-commercial ode to fancying somebody and having no idea what’s going on in their head. It’s also about how scary love is, because you have to give up control and surrender yourself to this tidal wave of impulsive emotion. When we were working on the album, ‘cute as hell’ was literally the last song we wrote; the lyrics are playfully ironic and also have a constant kind of manic energy that definitely stems from the deep, restless depths of the pandemic

Brimming with youthful exuberance, it marries the most infectious elements of The Libertines, Vampire Weekend, Tom Grennan and Ten Tonnes, weaving assured guitar riffs with punchy percussion throughout its almost 3 minutes.

Speaking about the song Harvey says, “‘For The Love Of It’ is a statement about how music should be created and played … for the love of it. Not following a trend, being able to connect with others, not forcing the art for the primary motive of money. The production portrays this. Playful melodies, groups of chanting teens, rough around the edges as a whole - a song to shout out together with your mates.  My painting of why I make music for the love of it.’’

The new single also comes after recently being snapped up by Paradigm booking agency for live shows. Now represented by Alex Hardee (Liam Gallagher, Sia, Clean Bandit), Harvey will play a headline show in London on 17th March at the prestigious Notting Hill Arts Club. 

Freshly tipped by This Feeling and XS Manchester as One To Watch in 2022, 'For The Love Of It' is another taste of what's to come from the uber talented singer-songwriter’s debut EP, due for release this spring.  Bringing together raw lyrical work with driving instrumentation, it effortlessly showcases why the 20 year old is onto such big things.

Hailing from Portsmouth, Harvey had already seen a remarkable ascent even before releasing music officially -  being tipped and playlisted by BT Sport and playing the Isle of Wight Festival for This Feeling last year.

More Information on Harvey Jay Dodgson

Harvey Jay Dodgson started playing the guitar at the age of 7 and by 9 years of age had written his first piece of music. His early inspiration came after being introduced by older brother Neil to the music of Peggy Lee, Billie Holiday and the free-flowing vocal melodies of Ella Fitzgerald and Ray Charles. He says, "It instantly opened my eyes (or should I say ‘ears’) to a completely different sound of music." It was discovering the jazz-influenced artists, King Krule and Cosmo Pyke who inspired him to experiment further and he was soon ready to create his own music. 

 Tipped by BT TV and Scotts Menswear as ‘One to Watch 2021’ He has recently performed at the IOW Festival. He will be releasing his debut fully produced EP in 2022.

For The Love Of It

A lucid dream-like adventure where a godlike figure attempts to grant all of a person’s wishes by carving them all kinds of exciting things out of the clouds. But a sad dog keeps appearing so the deity swallows the sky not understanding that the person wanted to confront the whole spectrum of their emotions, including the sad dog chasing them around.

Test Card Girl is a solo project by new Manchester indie singer-songwriter Catherine Burgis. Having grown increasingly frustrated with an admin-based existence, and wishing to conquer a life-long fear of singing in public, Catherine embarked on a country-wide tour as a musical comedian in 2018 complete with novelty miniature keyboard. Winning awards (North West Comedian of the Year, Frog and Bucket 2018, Funny Women Semi-Finalist 2019, Beat the Gong Winner, The Arc, Stockton 2019) and growing in confidence as a singer, she performed her first (and last) gig as solo synth-folk artist Test Card Girl in February 2020, with all subsequent gigs immediately being cancelled due to the dawning of a global pandemic.
 
With live performance not possible, Catherine turned her attention to recording and released her first single 'Holds Me Down' in 2020. The single was picked up by BBC 6Music, Radio X, Absolute Radio and XS Manchester and she was named Steve Lamacq's BBC 6 Music 'One to Watch' in January 2021. Catherine was awarded an Arts Council grant to make a further 3 singles in 2021 and is currently working on her debut EP 'Fly' with producer Seadna McPhail at Airtight Studios, Manchester.  The EP is due for release in Spring 2022 and will feature guest performances from drummer Andy Hargreaves (I Am Kloot) and bass player Nathan Sudders (Miles Kane, Guy Garvey, Nadine Shah). Test Card Girl's music ranges from lo-fi bedroom pop to simple indiefolk songs, influenced in equal parts by the standard-issue musical taste of a 90's Manchester teenager; an obsession with the MIDI sounds of childhood keyboards past and finger-picking folk songs of old. In January 2022 Catherine was announced as one of 10 Manchester International Festival MIF Sounds artists​ and will be performing live throughout 2022 (dates TBC).
