Jecksel makes a triumphant return to the Steyoyoke imprint with this masterful and hauntingly atmospheric, EP, “Niflheim”. This carefully crafted ethos brings about a sense of suspended animation ensnaring the senses and compelling the listener into a dreamlike state.

The voyage commences with “Niflheim”. Crafted around soul-stirring horn leads and a dark penetrating bass groove, the title track sets the broody ethereal tone. “Einherjar” is a microcosm of this anthology where the EP absolutely takes full flight. Bounding through interwoven regretful horns, the lush soundscapes have you yearning for the reemergence of the sacred and grounding groove. The conclusion of the EP, “Nordland”, is a highly textured breaks tune with detailed emotive atmospheric pads wrapped around a heartbeatlike poly rhythmic groove; softly easing the listener back into reality.

Jecksel’s “Niflheim” EP takes the listener on a weightless journey through wistful and boundless empyreans only to beam them to the shadowy and familiar depths of purgatory. Steyoyoke and “complex simplicity” at their finest.

Point Sole is one of Spain’s most respected underground artists with a melodic style that’s attracted devoted fans including many of his peers such as Edu Imbernon, AFFKT and Coyu who have all released his music on their respective labels.

Not only has Point Sole released tracks on Eklektisch, Sincopat and Suara, but he has also featured on many other respected labels including Metro Dance Records, which is linked to the Alicante based venue Metro Dance Club.

Metro Dance Club is the leading Electronic music venue in the Southern part of Spain and it’s somewhere Point Sole has played on many occasions, so it’s no surprise he has become a staple part of the associated Metro Dance Records.

Now on his second EP of original music for Metro Dance Records, this release features three of Point Sole’s original tracks, alongside a remix from Italian artist Ivan Masa who completes the package.

Ivan Masa has previously worked with high-flying imprints like Einmusika and Stil Vor Talent with this remix being another fine example of his work.

“Existencia” opens the EP with its tribal percussion and hypnotic melody which lifts and drops amidst the building tension of swelling pads that create a mesmerising aura, but it’s the trippy vocals that really add the sparkle to this sensual cut of deep house.

Second is “We Danced Together” which fuses earthy percussion and rainforest sounds to create an atmosphere reminiscent of a tropical jungle. Taking the listener on a journey through an audio landscape filled with exotic wildlife, the dubby pads add a laid-back mood that soothes you throughout the expedition.

Last of the three originals, “Invasion” has an upbeat style with the distorted lead synth contrasting with the smooth textures of the vocal. Ramping up the intensity as it unfolds, the vocal opens to expose short phrases that add to the comeliness of the track’s mysterious vibe.

Closing the release is the remix of "Existencia" by Ivan Masa who lifts the energy of the track with his rework that adds a new melody and extra synths. Epic and filled with a brooding atmosphere, this cut Is overflowing with all the ingredients that make for a perfect dance floor experience.

Release Info: 
Fur Coat return to Renaissance as the run-in to their eagerly anticipated second album ‘Polyphony’ (due 16 October) really starts to pick-up a head of steam. To ensure the pistons are pumping and things are approaching maximum velocity, the Latin American duo deliberately picked one of the strongest tracks for their sophomore session, ‘Shades’, released 2 October.

“’Shades’ is one of Polyphony’s more defined dancefloor cuts,” explains Fur Coat’s Sergio, “it was a natural choice for it to be a single. The thing that really underlined the decision was Johannes though. We sent the entire album over to him and said, ‘take your pick’. When he immediately chose ‘Shades’, Israel and I were left with no doubt whatsoever.”

In its original guise, the track is an exemplary slice of melodic techno; that happy marriage of opposites, where dark, brooding base meets a memorable, infectious top-line. It’s firmly in ‘hum it all the way home from the club after just one listen’ territory.

Johannes Brecht’s take is a remix in the very best sense of the word. He takes the top line by the scruff of the neck and transports into the very different, yet oh-so-now world of atmospheric breaks. It’s one of those rare interpretations that can sit as comfortably at an Ibizan sunset as one of its famed (yet to be re-opened) dancefloors at 4am.

All in all, this is an exceptional release from two of the most exceptional production talents at work today.
