Podcast Mélopée Records 036 - Jason Core

When it comes to featuring high-quality South American/Latino underground electronic music, the super cool Montevideo-based U’re Guay Records fails to disappoint. Every single release in their vast catalogue presents a true showcase of the hermanos' talent in combining sharp production skills with a buttload of creativity.

For its forthcoming Volume, the Uruguayan outlet opens its doors to Bernardo Campos, a Rio De Janeiro-based artist highly established in the carioca nightlife scene, who brought to the party two made-for-the-dance-floor cuts and invited Manuel Sahagun and Imanol, the label boss himself, for the remix duties.

The track we chose to premiere is a beautiful tribute to Botafogo, a breathtaking beachfront neighbourhood in Rio. According to Wikipedia, the word Botafogo also refers to a Latin American ballroom dance move, named so because it originated in the area. Manuel Sahagun's RawMix brings the original to a dirtier and more acid realm, filled with synth distortions and stabs topping the bouncing and frolic bassline.

Ninetoes continues his run of fine form following the Squillace collaboration ‘Kuneh’, releasing a double header EP ’Shumba / Prove It’.

’Shumba’ lands as a rework of Thomas Mapfumo, aka The Lion Of Zimbabwe and musical legend, whose empowered vocal is complimented by signature Ninetoes precision and intricate guitar lines. ’Shumba’ is the first of its kind where we hear the living legend Mapfumo featuring on an electronic track , something which is “a real honour” for Ninetoes. ‘Prove It’ follows as a deeper melodic cut as soaring pads carry you through epic builds and rich soulful vocal samples, rounding off this two tracker and increasing the growing hype around what is to come.

The Imaginarium is a unique pearl gleaming within the beautiful galaxy of Lithuanian festivals. Super small in size, yet abundant in beauty of all kinds, the festival is – first and foremost – about the joy of the creation process. This is an essential aspect of human growth that is often overlooked during modern-day events.

Pretty Much tribe nurtures a culture of support, mutual creation, and skill-sharing. With every third person of the community having learned how to use the DJ decks, it was only natural to take a step forward into music production. This is how five producers were paired with six beginners to go on a unique musical journey together for this compilation of six tracks. Each of them explores the idea of connectedness since the main theme of The Imaginarium VII was about transforming aloneness into oneness.

We believe that genuine and meaningful connections are what every human being truly seeks. The question then is: what if some of the energy put into hyping up people with big names was redirected into fostering co-creation? How much is it possible for a person to become more authentic & open up due to the environment?

To answer this, Pretty Much tribe has built a utopian village, where everyone is called by their name. An idealistic culture that values sharing over commerce. A space where every individual can bask in the sun of imagination by playing an important part in the collective. Get inspired to give in to oneness by immersing yourself in the ripples of ‘Echoes of The Imaginarium VII’.
