Brass Band Schoonhoven was founded in 1921 as a fanfare band and transformed into a brass band in 1971. Under the baton of Erik Janssen the band was promoted to the Championship Division in 1998 and became one of the leading Dutch brass bands. In 2013 the band already had won 4 Dutch National titles in succession, won the French Open Brass Band Championships, the Belgian Open Brass Band Championships and became a record holder at the Euro Brass Contest with 5 titles. At the European Brass Band Championships the band only scored top-6 places and won the 2012 Own Choice with 99 points. In 2014 the band made its debut at the Brass in Concert Championships and won the Entertainment Section.

Besides the Championship Division band, Brass Band Schoonhoven consists of two other brass bands: Brass Band Schoonhoven - B (2nd Division) and Brass Band Schoonhoven - C (5th Division). Both bands also are very successful at the contest stage.

The bands of Brass Band Schoonhoven are not only active on the contest stages. All three bands very frequently perform on various concert stages at home and abroad. Brass Band Schoonhoven also organises many events and concerts itself.
