Mayonnaise actually has an interesting history that surprisingly involves quite a bit of death! I might make a video about this, had no idea until I researched it. It's a polarizing food for sure, loved by some and despised by others. I read in one article that the spread actually can remind people of death ( I think this maybe more of a gut reaction, not a conscious thing necessarily) because it is soft and slimy-looking, and these are often signs that something is rotten or decaying. Also, mayonnaise (or variation thereof) is a very popular ingredient in chef kitchens. There might be a mayonnaise hiding in something you're eating right now!
