Penned primarily by Todd this bouncy tune was inspired by all "The Kooks" (unusual individuals) at gigs who would hang out with the band after, but who had no social IQ to know when it was time to give it up and go home. Legend has it that the song was inspired by Johnny in a drunken stupor, quoted as saying "I hate talkin!" when complaining about how his voice was shot after talking to too many weirdos one night. Recorded live in Feb. 1990 at The Upangys 'Bye Bye Bottoms' farewell show in Edmonton.

The Upangybottoms were huge fans of Saturday morning TV cartoons growing up and their music was heavily influenced by everything from Spiderman to The Flintstones. This live recording from a show in Edmonton (circa 1985-1990) pays homage to Rock Roll, the legendary Flintstones character who ate pickled dodo eggs, lost his voice, and Fred had to fill in for him to save the show! The Upangybottoms: Edmonton's legendary power pop rockers, circa 1985-1990! Presenting their one-album wonder "Upangymania" Relive the debauchery! Born from the ashes of Alberta's punk scene in the early 1980s, The Upangys blended punk sensibilities with power pop riffs. Notorious for their raucous live shows and wicked sense of humour, the power trio wrote many original tunes but were also well known for their kooky covers by bands as diverse as the New York Dolls, Beatles, Ramones, REM and Van Halen. Signature crowd pleasers included "The Way Out" from the Flintstones TV show and their own "Egyptian Holiday". Original songs crossed many styles from pure pop "Everyday" to the more serious "Sixties Smile" and really off the wall tunes such as "Who Me?", "Strip Mall", "Love On The Hound" and "The Upangy Rap". After years of self-imposed exile, The Upangys are back to share "Upangymania" with their friends and fans. From Motown to British Invasion to 70s glam and classic arena rock to punk and new wave . . . the three Upangys each brought a wide variety of musical influences to create a truly original act.

Recorded live circa 1989 at the Convention Inn South Ballroom, Edmonton. Pit Bull is The Upangys' social commentary on Edmonton's horrific Pit Bull problem that nearly brought the dog-loving metropolis to its knees. For this Halloween show, the trio dressed politically-incorrectly as usual: Todd as a hard partying priest, Johnny as a vivacious nun and Tedillac as The Devil himself.

Since The Upangys couldn't afford to hire a warm-up act, they would often appear as "The Bone Smokers" - a lime green polyester jacket wearing lounge trio, putting a lounge spin on heavy metal covers. In this case, The Bone Smokers perform their original country and western tear jerker, Pissed and Broke, an homage to all the lonely hearts drinking away their sorrows in crappy lounges. A rare studio demo by The Upangys recorded in 1986 in Edmonton to cassette tape used for promo purposes to hustle gigs. Studio time was EXPENSIVE in the 80s so The Upangybottoms were more focused on playing live, plus the studio experience never fully captured the raw raunchy loud live performances The Upangys were known for. Everyday (1986 studio demo)

Fast and loose! Sometimes Tedillac's drum beats would go to hyper speed as noted in this live recording from a "Battle of the Bands" at Club John's (Edmonton AB) in 1986. Todd turned up his "Husquavarna" amp to 11 and we let 'er rip, but alas, we came second in the competition. The Stupid Song is a long lost track, rarely performed by The Upangys after their first year together.

This rare 1992 track is posted as a memorial to our good friend and musical brother-in-arms, Kevin Alstad, who we lost Dec 1, 2020 after his courageous battle with cancer. After The Upangys ended in 1990, all three Upangys were eventually part of this spin-off band, The Dogs, which prowled Edmonton's rock club scene circa 1992-93 performing about 40% original material. Kevin's electric guitar talents feature heavily on this original tune, written by Johnny. Kevin was also a talented recording engineer and he co-produced and recorded the track in his home studio. This version was recorded from a live FM radio broadcast, Edmonton's 100.3 The Bear FM, (hence the crackly cassette tape noises!). RIP (or rock it up) Kevin, we love you brother!
