Bless you David - the sentiment shines through this thoughtfully written devotion

This demo version is an April 2020 update of an original song, to reflect some thoughts on how we can trust God during the Coronavirus Lockdown.
The original song, based on Lamentations 3:24 and Psalm 31:20, was finalised at the 'Resound' Worship Songwriting Retreat in June 2019:

As we live through this pandemic, 
We’re in Lockdown in our homes;
Through anxiety and panic, 
We can all feel so alone.
Through it all, Lord, may we shelter
In your presence, and remember: 
	You are our portion,  
 	All we need comes from you;
 	You are our portion,	
 	We will wait, Lord, with you. 
Even though we feel frustrated, 
Kept apart from those we love, 
We believe we’ll come through safely, 
Though the path’s not clear to us; 
So we rest, Lord, in your presence,
Knowing you will bring direction.  	
 	You are our portion,  
 	All we need comes from you;

 	We will trust, Lord, in you.

12 song challenge 2018

You are our portion (Lockdown)

Written for the Resound 12 song challenge 2020 as a 'Women in Scripture song', this is one of my favourites of the songs I wrote for the challenge. 
It summarises the story of the woman who anointed Jesus in Bethany, as told in Luke 7 and Mark 14, with two verses telling the story at the time and a Coda suggesting how it may apply to us. 

Invited to dine with Simon, 
Jesus was welcomed to eat;  
Yet not by his host but a sinner:
Perfume poured over his feet.    
This action amazed the other guests:  
’What a dreadful waste!’
Yet Jesus replied ‘Let her be now;
The poor you will always have with you,
I’ll soon ascend, not remain.’

‘In filling this place with fragrance,
Washing my feet with her tears,  
Anointing my body for burial,  
She made her gratitude clear!
So now I say she can go in peace    
Faith has made her whole! 
She’s done such a beautiful thing here, 
That she’ll be included whenever 
Gospel encounters are told.'
 
Now as we come to your feet, Lord, 
Kneeling in worship to you,
Bringing our gifts in repentance,
Grateful you make all things new.    
We can receive your salvation, 
Faith will bring release; 
Thank you our sins are forgiven,
We can know your peace, 
And as the perfume’s sweet fragrance 
Pervaded the room where you dined, 
May all around scent your fragrance
As love is shown through our lives.
