At the beginning some unknown chatter - likely earlier in the broadcast - is short and cuts to a call in on WBZ with Guy Mainella. This broadcast dates from early October 1976, before the October 10th Patriots game at Detroit.  Discussion is about the New England Patriots, and the New York Giants. At the beginning of the tape there is a commercial for Boston Celtics season tickets, and another for Merchants Tire.

In the fall of '24 I picked up a TEAC 2340 4-track  and a Marantz cassette field recorder, two of the better deals I've found in years. 

I wanted to record a song I knew easily and could knock out in twenty minutes - overdubs and all - this recording being just a test, after all, I had no idea if these flea market finds would even work - but - they did, more or less, and 
-I've decided to find the result charming-
and so here it is.

The song in question is one i wrote in 2006 called 'something to mourn.' It's kind of a song about feeling alone and relating to abandoned things, so 'early twenties and depressed' it's painful, i know. Originally recorded with green bean way back then (2006), it was on my mind the day I made this recording because I'd been sort-of-on-and-off remixing that 2006 green bean album with the thought that I might put out a twenty years on re-release. That is still in the air. It still could happen, maybe -  
- anyway -
inexplicably, the Maxell 'communicator' cassette tapes i had on hand, when used with the Marantz, sound like they're under water for the first 3-4 minutes of side A. Every single one of them. This is evidenced here, as this was the first thing I recorded and mixed from the Teac 2340 and bounced to the Marantz.

Kind of a demo/recording experiment carried out by Quitters when our Otari8 track broke down. How can we still record all analog with online a four track and a cassette working? [4 track 1/4" Tascam and a Denon cassette deck] We used them to build up a multitrack recording:

Drums + Guitar recorded to 4 track reel to reel 
--> bounce to cassette in stereo 
--> bounce two tracks back to reel to reel + add bass + second guitar 
--> bounce to cassette 
--> bounce to reel to reel and add two tracks of vocals.
