everybody staring into nothing. the people seem to be on pause all waiting for the southbound train while the northbound train is stopped on the adjacent track. the wind is blowing. the occasional seagull flys by. i’m leaning on a street light with a heavy ass backpack. i’m tapping my foot and swaying to these sounds. my friend and i are parked in a field in her old car. we’ve set up the bed in the trunk. she’s going to sleep when i start vigorously brushing my teeth out the side of the car. highway sounds in the distance. laughter sounds included. we go to sleep after telling stories of our toes with holes in them and frost bite with grandma. wake up at 4am and drive to the ocean.
