I Killed Ramji is the debut album by Mumbai based Electronic Music group Tandav. Drawing inspiration from HipHop, Eectronica and the traditional elements of Indian music, Tandav's 25 minute EP is an organic medley of loud beats, bass, flute, violin and rap verses created by members RaVam, 9th Circle and MALFNKTION.

The origin of the track, lies with Mohit developing  the intention of resolving internal conflict. Conflict based within an artistic identity dealing with finding one's true calling. His thought was that although intense practice and training can lead to accomplishments, they lead in most cases in creating a larger picture on one's life's true aspirations. In his mind, this song represents the philosophy of an accomplished artist who's not driven by his/her achievements. The artist is always looking to evolve, because the ideal exists in the distance, never to be reached. Hence the journey the artist undertakes  provides a spiritual spiritual and that of being one with god. 


"This idea came to me as I met an old friend of mine and offered her some advice as she is going through the same mixed emotions of an identity crisis as an artist. The only one person I can correlate the current scenario to is a man who has shaped contemporary and post modern music, John Coltrane. Being such an accomplished musician in his field he was never content with himself. And in the process of wanting to achieve greatness/nirvana, he set milestones and trends which could only be matched by a few. In my opinion people with conflicting mentalities (conflict between ambition and idealism) are the one's who really mould and affect culture and the people around them. Success comes to these people and they are never satisfied, sometimes depressed, but this is not a result of greed or wanting social validation, it is because they see themselves as a bigger person and always wish for more."

This week's featured release is a fresh electronica track, "Black Drongo". The latest single by Ranchi based artist Rishabh Lohia aka The Mellow Turtle, the track consists of tribal drums, flute, and electronic soundscapes. Inspired by Sadri Music, Rishabh's recent release explores eclectic rhythmic and melodic elements to deliver a peaceful downtempo electronica track.

The very first draft of this compilation was being workshopped by the end of June, 2019. The world was in a precarious place then too, but by the time we had arrived at an LP ready for release it was being plunged headfirst into a new era. The abrogation of Article 370 in Kashmir, followed by the attempted re-writing of India’s citizenship laws had spawned the first sustained wave of protests in India since Prime Minister Modi and his NDA government had assumed power in 2014.

So we stayed its release, feeling that maybe this was not the moment for a compilation that dwelt so heavily on the interior lives of artists. Then, before any of us could catch our breath, the new year brought in its own fresh wave of disasters and a global pandemic. Now, as we watch the shock doctrine be applied in its crudest form all around us, the quaintness of this compilation has taken on new meaning.

What started as an exciting first step in our plans for the new decade is now a time capsule. Those moments in the album that seemed wary of the future now sound like moments of premonition. The silly and fun parts are welcome reprieve to the mood of the planet nowadays. But the album is underscored by an unawareness of just how much the world was going to change.

The 12 track FRNDS & FMLY ’20 offers a broader sonic palette compared to our first compilation (F&F’16) cutting through genres, mood and intent. While the label regulars follow their own tangents, new recruits in Flekke, Jevan Antony, Akrti and Murane Athma x Aniruddha Prabhu further expand the sound of  Consolidate.
