Mild Fantasy & Veneno Live Series Mix 15 - MEILGAARDEN

For our first mix of the year, we keep it homegrown with Rotterdam duo @black-cadmium. Mike Richards and Joginda Macnack's artist alias is influenced by two things - their Surinamese descent, and a poisonous chemical which they say is a metaphor for "the discrepancy between one's capabilities and the world's view." Their own capabilities lay in mixing up everything from hi-tek to Detroit tech, London grime to Dutch electro. They have landed on labels like Vault Wax and really open up their collections for this week's podcast.

In usual Black Cadmium fashion, anything goes here as they race through rave, bass, acid and club with relentless energy. The mixing is tight and quick as tracks fly by at a high pace but always in a great balance between the mind, body and soul. A jacked-up soulful house cut will lead to a double-time bass workout then deep and punchy Motor City sounds make way for head-wrecking bass futurism. Hold on tight, then, because this is one thrilling ride.

ABSIS is Salva Coromina, a regular DJ on the Barcelona scene since the late 90s under the alias of mouseDown/MouseUp, was a resident DJ at The Loft and a regular at Sonar for many years. He has always been exploring the deeper face of electronic music moving from ambient to techno. We can find some of his productions on the Hivern Discs label.

Born and raised in Indonesia, Clownbaby is a DJ and club kid who grew up listening to disco, trance and electro back in his home town of Jakarta. 

In his teens he cut his teeth playing nightclubs around Jakarta with the Tracknetic crew before moving to Rochester NY where he started a weekly radio show called Amnesia on WRUR 88.5FM. 

Four years and 100 shows later, he moved to Madison and started Below - a no-frills party series focusing on underground techno and house music. 

Today he continues to operate as a crate digger and DJ, always searching for that next song or party to feed his inner child.

Clownbaby, or Sully as he's known to friends, has been Pulse family since day one, so we're excited to share this mix with you! 💫
