Entering at the tail end of the NWOBHM, Algy Ward and his Tank outfit made a rumbling racket with the oustanding Filth Hounds of Hades debut. One of the best albums of the whole NWOBHM she-bang it says here, this was a tough record that was pushing Motorhead levels of intensity and sonics. 

The sophomore Power of the Hunter is praised in many a punter's circle, but I always saw this is a huge disappointment, the song writing watered down and production weak compared to the debut. 

The British unit changed tack on This Means War in 1983, taking a more traditional metal stance with war infatuated lyrics. Definately an improvement over the previous release. They followed that up a year later with the similarly themed and musically equivalent Honour and Blood, an album in my lonely opinion I perceive was even better than its predecessor.

Regardless, let's celebrate the first four years of the legendary Tank with a 40 minute playlist of its best material during their heyday.

Armored Saint introduced themselves with a bang via their March of the Saint debut, garnering attention from headbangers world wide. However, they were never able to build on the initial euphoria, forever being relegated to the B-Division of trad metal bands.

Too bad, because in John Bush they had one of the best vocalists in the idiom to have shouting into a microphone for them. Regardless, here we present the cream of the Saint discogrpahy from the 80s for your listening enjoyment.

Are you into true, chest-beating metal? Then you have to take a listen to one of the best new units in the sub-genre ... Blazon Rite. 

These Philadelphia based lads know how to pen a track - great riffs, glorious guitar playing and the requisite he-man vocals bringing it all home. They initiated activities in 2020 with an EP, then kicked down the doors with Endless Halls of Golden Totem (one of our fave Hard'N'Heavy albums of 2021) and have recently issued the glorious Wild Rites & Ancient Songs (which is sure to be one of our top 10 HNH albums of 2023).
