"Saudade" is a Portuguese word that can be translated to the equivalent of "Nostalgia" in English. This piece is written for solo violin and was performed by the amazing Yu Yasuraoka in March 2017.

Based on the writing of 17th-century poet Matsuo Bashō, 1689 looks at his haikus only from the spring, summer, and autumn of that year. The main theme that ran his poems of that year were generally solitude, and as such, the piece reflects this character through the use of stark contrasts between movements.

Solar Rain

"Living Lexicon: Languages" is the first movement of a larger work that takes the texts of old books and turns them into a verbal collection of phrases and collected knowledge from across the ages. This movement focuses on the subject of language with sections on linguistics and folklore passed on via an oral tradition.
