“War Crimes” is a song written from a dark place in a recovering alcoholic once they’ve realized their problems go so much further than substance abuse. This particular story is about a person always searching for a codependent relationship, but this one drastically turns violent and painful after giving up alcohol for one another. The battle was the alcohol. The war crimes are everything that followed.
