Beowulf is an anonymous epic poem, written in a West Saxon variant of Old English. The dating is still uncertain, however, the most significant clues collected so far by scholars would tend to place it around the middle of the 8th century. At 3182 verses, it is the longest Anglo-Saxon poem; it has come down to us through a single manuscript, the Cotton Vitellius, preserved in the British Library.

Reading this epic poem dates back to my university years and lent itself as a source of inspiration for a CD focusing on epic and obscure tracks.
