Any artist is welcome to send us a track via freshonthenet.co.uk anytime between Monday lunchtime and Wednesday evening (or when we receive 200 submissions, whichever is sooner) - and all our moderators, including Tom Robinson, will listen to every track. If a track you submitted does not appear in this list, it’s probably because another of your tracks appeared in our Fresh Faves or on the BBC Music Introducing Mixtape during the last three months — we ask that artists featured on either wait three months before resubmitting to give others a chance. 

We also don’t accept short previews or SoundCloud Go tracks that can only be heard as 30 second previews, and tracks made private after submission, which cannot be included in playlists. You will be able to resubmit the track in future. Tracks (and remixes of tracks) that have been previously submitted, and tracks from banned artists will also be removed.

“‘Return To The East’ is about going back to your roots, back to simplicity and in turn overcoming doubt, reclaiming personal identity and finding clarity and strength in who you are. 

It was written during a visit to my hometown of Montrose, on the East Coast of Scotland. I was on a bike ride towards Lunan Bay on a sun-drenched day when I entered a deep reflection triggered by the landscape around me. The sea, wild grasses and ploughed fields transported me back to my childhood. I was not long out of university at the time and was trying to find my feet, figure out who I was and what I wanted away from the external noise of city life in Glasgow and the influence of others.”

This is the third chapter from my upcoming album, Hearts Get Started. 

This album is a collection of songs written over several years, some of them being my oldest. It feels a little like a puzzle, with each song being its own world and story. When you put them together, they are stepping stones along the way of my musical adventure. I like to think of it as a prequel to our first album Disco Lasers. It's all the music that got me to that point.

Eugene Twist, the Scottish singer-songwriter, returns with a captivating new track ”Sea Captains”. Drawing inspiration from his recent relocation to the south coast of Sweden, the song delves into the transient nature of life and the ever-changing landscapes around us. Emmeline is navigating her own sonic aesthetic as a lyrical polymath, fierce experimentalist and storyteller.

Having grown up in a small village in West Yorkshire alongside her father, a poet and playwright, and her mother, who works in radio drama, she has always been fascinated by the power of words. 

At the age of 17, she begun entering spoken word competitions unbeknown to her family and friends, and soon won a national slam. 

Studying English at University, she met aspiring producers and beat-makers at parties and began to layer her lyrics over Soundcloud beats, experimenting by rewriting the words of her favourite songs, and soon amassed a block of demos. By November 2021, she clocked Fraser T Smith, long-time collaborator and producer to Kano, Stormzy, Dave and Ghetts, at a gig, introduced herself, and asked whether he had any advice for the music industry.
Fraser liked what he heard and arranged a meeting with Emmeline and his manager the following day, where they exchanged their creative influences, process and people they were inspired by. He sent Emmeline a beat, and she responded with lyrics within a matter of days. Since then, Emmeline and Fraser T Smith have created music together at a breakneck pace, leveling up each other's limitations at every turn.
