Jongen - Improvisation-Pastorale

The 3rd movement of Livre du Saint Sacrement, on Westminster Cathedral organ. Musical motifs are the plainsong Alleluia for Corpus Christi, and birdsong from Ein Geddi and from Lod, near Tel Aviv. Spiritual themes are from The Imitation of Christ and from Aquinas' hymn, Adoro te devote, latens deitas. Both reflect on the veiled presence of Christ, and Aquinas echoes the prayer of the penitent thief.

Le Dieu cache, Messiaen

In honour of the old 6-week Advent, here is Bach's take on Luther's version of Ambrose's Veni Redemptor Gentium - been around longer than thought! Not the same tune but utterly the same meaning. Deep, poignant, utterly beautiful music. Played on the Viscount Envoy23  kindly loaned to the RSCM during lockdown by Viscount Organs Wales.
