Discovery begins with a sweet oboe solo that immediately introduces the main theme. Then the orchestra takes over and, like the struggle with life, it tries to find the meaning of the main theme. The deep thrusting of the basses represents life’s opposition trying to pull the strings down as they attempt to discover the theme.  In the end, the theme wins gloriously as the orchestra and flutes rediscover the theme. And then, as simply as it began, the oboe brings us back. 

Note, you only hear the main theme twice in this movement; in the initial oboe solo and then again when the orchestra finds it toward the end. Even the ending oboe solo doesn’t play the complete main theme in its entirety. 

That’s all I can say about it. The rest is up to you.
