Hi, i tried making an Utau of Homsar from the internet cartoon Homestar Runner.

For people that don't know, Utau is a voice synthesizer focused on singing that's mostly made for the Japanese language. The software lets you import wav files in a folder to use as a voicebank in the program.  Most people record their own voices to use but some people like taking audio from various media and making voicebanks with that. However, voicebanks using audio taken from characters or celebrities cannot to distributed without the consent from the person behind the voice.

I'm really happy with how much it sounds like him, but i guess my tuning helped a bit. But still, i'm happy with how the Utau software handled his voice.

I took samples from various flash cartoons he appeared in and episode 2 of SBCG4AP. The Sounds Resource did not have have of the SBCG4AP episodes beyond episode 2. Having audio from the video game helped, though i remember there were moments in the cartoons where there was little to no noise when Homsar was talking.

I found a lot of usable samples whole, but there were also a lot of samples where i had to splice consonants and vowels together. In total Homsar has 41 whole samples and 31 spliced samples. Because of the way he speaks vocally, it was easy to find sounds for his voicebank. But because of the way he speaks verbally, it was a bit hard trying to figure out what he should sing. I don't want the Homestar Runner community to get mad at me. "Iwashi ga Tsuchi Kara Haetekuru n da" seemed to be a good pick based off of the translation i saw, the lyrics are weird. I've seen it interpreted as being about death, so this might have been a mistake, but i've already gone this far in.

His voicebank has samples missing, but it's mostly sounds like "kyu", "gya", and "hyo". I have an alternative way to possibly make these sounds, for example i could try making a note with "ki" and a note with "u" and try to use crossfade on them. I know it's not the best thing to do.

I'm not distributing this voicebank. Don't ask me for it. I don't have permission from Matt to release it and it doesn't have all the sounds it needs to be a full voicebank.

Anyways, i hope my mixing's okay, i'm not too experienced with that, basic compression and equalization is new to me. I hope this was an enjoyable experience for whoever's listening.
