Elysia Crampton Chuquimia (E+E) - FIRE GUT (Original Version) [2013]

Last March, the California-bred artist Eera, also known as a founding member of the influential New York crew Surf Gang, also known as a producer who has laced tracks for everyone from Bladee to Babyxsosa, Rich The Kid to Black Kray—did a DJ set as part of Nina Night at the New York club Nowadays. Eera’s session for Nina highlights the same tracklist that he played at the club. It’s a washy melding of rave, rap, ambient, techno, and club; it makes sonic connections, and it makes us excited about the future of both the producer and the wider community from which he incubated. Cascade and The Deluge are variations on the latest tape-loop and delay composition from the inimitable William Basinski. Cascade is the CD/Digital variant, and The Deluge is the deluxe 180 gram white vinyl LP companion. In Cascade, a single ancient lilting piano tape loop repeats endlessly carrying one along in its tessellating current. In The Deluge, the same loop is processed through a series of feedback loops of different lengths, creating a spiraling crescendo of overtones that eventually fades away to silence. In the denouement, a series of limpid piano loops leads to an urgent orchestral theme that builds and gradually dies.

None may be better suited to crafting eulogies than William Basinski. The composer who graced us with the melancholy masterpiece Disintegration Loops now turns his gaze to David Bowie. Today marks the one year anniversary of Bowie's passing and so we humbly premiere Basinski's tribute 'For David Robert Jones.' This hymn for the music hero will be released January 20th on Temporary Residence Ltd. Keep your ears on RBMA Radio because Los Angeles resident Basinski will soon appear as a guest on Frosty's weekly LAndscape program.

This is a remix of the original 2009 demo with drums by Puto Baba, released in 2012 on the DJ mix "Nativity" as E+E.

The original demo, "submerging cathedral", was written by Elysia Crampton and Angelica Olsen in 2002-2003 and recorded/released in 2009.

The cover art and title are sourced from its preview, posted in July 2013.
