Olivier possesses extensive international experience in the anti-doping industry; particularly, in the areas of legal, finance and governance. He started his legal career with Carrard & Associés in Lausanne (Switzerland), where WADA was his client.

In 2002, Oliver first joined WADA as the Agency’s Legal Director to which he added the title of Finance Director in 2004. In 2011, Olivier returned to Carrard & Associés as partner, where his practice focused on sport, arbitration and commercial law. In 2014, Olivier returned to WADA as Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel of WADA.

Olivier holds a Master of Laws from the London School of Economics (England) and a Master of Business Administration from McGill University, in Montreal (Canada).

The world renowned Architect Frank Gehry has been called “the greatest architect we have today” by the acclaimed architect Philip Johnson. His career has spanned more than five decades designing architectural masterpieces in over six countries on three continents. Mr. Gehry’s work includes the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, California, and the Louis Vuitton Foundation’s new center in the Bois de Boulogne outside of Paris, France.

Mr. Gehry founded his architecture firm in 1962. More recently, he established Gehry Partners, LLP in 2001. He personally designs every project at the firm. He has won numerous international awards, including the coveted Pritzker Prize in 1989, the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Award in 2000, and the Woodrow Wilson Award for Public Service in 2004.   He was the first architect ever to receive the Harvard Arts Medal in 2016. In 2016, President Barack Obama honored Frank Gehry with the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his career achievements. Mr. Gehry has also taught at Yale University.

Mr. Gehry explores the role of the architect in creating aesthetic, functional and socially present designs that respect their context, remain artistically and societally important over time, and inspire the highest ethical standards. Mr. Gehry shares his experiences in navigating some of today’s most challenging cultural, political, and social environments. Sarah Chang is widely lauded as one of today’s great violinists. She enrolled in the New York Juilliard School at the age of 6 and debuted with the New York Philharmonic at the age of 8 playing Paganini’s Violin Concerto No. 1 under world famous conductor Zubin Mehta.

Sarah Chang: ON AUTHENTICITY, LEGACY AND MUCH MORE

Christopher Le Brun has been President of the Royal Academy of Art, London since 2011. He is also a renowned artist exhibiting his work in many major museums, including Tate, Museum of Modern Art in New York, British Museum, Victoria & Albert Museum, Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and others. The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Yale Center for British Art acquired paintings for their collections.

Trained at the Slade and Chelsea Schools of Art in London, Christopher was a double prizewinner at the John Moores Liverpool exhibitions (1978 & 1980) and shortly thereafter began to appear in many group exhibitions, such as the Venice Biennale (1980) and the influential Zeitgeist (1982) at Martin-Gropius Bau, Berlin. His public monumental sculptures have been installed around London.

Between 1990 and 2005 Christopher served as a trustee of the Tate, the National Gallery and Dulwich Picture Gallery. He was one of the founding trustees of the Royal Drawing School, which he helped to establish in London in 2000. He was also the first Professor of Drawing at the Royal Academy.

Professor Dr. Martin Roth was Director of the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London from September 2011 until he stepped down to pursue other interests at the end of October 2016 after a highly successful five-year term. During his tenure, the V&A won the coveted Museum of the Year Award from the Art Fund in 2016 and has pursued an active international policy that included developing extensive networks of international partners and regional relations such as those with China, India, Russia, Qatar and Rwanda. 

Martin Roth’s perspective is global and inspiringly mindful of the stories behind the Museum’s extraordinary collection of over approximately three million objects from medieval times through today’s newest technology. His reflections intertwine Prince Albert’s founding mission for the V&A of improving lives through access to education and culture for all people with a focus on openness and responsibility to society today. 

Prior to joining the V&A, Professor Dr. Roth was Director General of the Dresden State Art Collections (Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden), a collection of 12 museums and galleries. Dr. Roth’s views on ethics and the arts also draw from his many other engagements, including serving as a personal member of the German Olympic Sports Foundation, a Trustee of the British Council, a member of the Council of the Royal College of Art and a member of the Court of Imperial College London to name a few. His numerous awards and honours also include honorary doctorates and fellowships at six European and six American universities. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1997. He is an Honorary Professor at M.I.T and a Distinguished Professor at Emory University. He is currently a Distinguished Writer in Residence at New York University.

The Martha Graham Dance Company was founded in 1926 by Martha Graham, widely recognized as one of the greatest artists of the 20th century and creator of an iconic approach to dance based on the human body’s capacity for expression. The company continues to lead the modern dance world today, bringing together Martha’s classic choreography and costumes with today’s choreographers, technology, and audience expectations.

Janet Eilber has been Martha Graham Dance Company’s Artistic Director since 2005. She was Martha’s protégé and principal dancer with the company. She has danced almost every one of Martha’s classic works and several works choreographed by Graham specifically for her. She has also had a longstanding film and stage career, directed by greats such as Agnes de Mille and Bob Fosse, performed at the White House, and received four Lester Horton Dance Awards by the Dance Resource Center of Los Angeles.

Janet reflects on how Martha’s legacy fuels a forward-looking approach to modern dance: from a spotlight on the legend to a refocus on the modern, technologically savvy audience. Ethics is embedded in every aspect of the history, choreography, and audience-focused values. Ethics is indeed a part of the Martha Graham movement language. Janet also shares stories of Martha’s moral foundation, for example refusing to perform in Nazi Germany, and her use of dance to challenge those with whom she worked to be their best ethical selves.

Janet Eilber: ON KEEPING DANCE MODERN, VALUES, TECHNOLOGY, MARTHA GRAHAM’S LIFE AND LEGACY, AND MORE

Sensei Richard Amos is currently Chief Instructor of the World Traditional Karate Association (WTKO). He began studying the Japanese martial art of Shotokan Karate at the age of ten. By the age of 23 he had established himself as a champion figure on the Karate competitive scene throughout England and continental Europe.

In 1989, Sensei Amos moved to Japan to pursue the coveted Japan Karate Association (JKA) instructor program. By 1994, he graduated as a JKA instructor at the headquarters dojo in Tokyo, one of only four other non-Japanese martial artists to have achieved this honor to date.

In 2000, Sensei Amos started a dojo in New York City under the WTKO. He has since become one of the world’s preeminent instructors in Shotokan Karate. He leads seminars throughout Asia, Europe, and North America in addition to his commitments at his New York City dojo. He is staunchly committed to the principles of karate (including standards of behavior) as they apply in life outside the dojo as well.

His forthcoming book Just Say Osu! is expected out in 2017.

Sensei Richard Amos: ON THE VALUE OF STRUGGLE, ETHICS FROM THE CORE...AND KARATE AS OLYMPIC SPORT

Xu Bing was born in Chongqing, China, in 1955 and traces his family roots to Wenling, Zhejiang Province. In 1977 he entered the printmaking department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing (CAFA), where he completed his bachelor’s degree in 1981 and stayed on as an instructor while earning his MFA in 1987. In 1990, at the invitation of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he moved to the United States. From 2008 to 2014, Xu served as the vice president of CAFA, where he is now a professor and the director of Academic Committee. He currently lives and works in Beijing and New York. 
Solo exhibitions of his work have been held at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Washington DC; the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York; the British Museum, London, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Joan Miro Foundation, Spain; National Gallery of Prague and the Spencer Museum of Art, Kansas, amongst other major institutions. Additionally, Xu Bing has shown at the 45th, 51st and 56th Venice Biennales; the Biennale of Sydney and the Johannesburg Biennale amongst other international exhibitions.
Over the years, Xu Bing’s work has appeared in high-school and college text-books around the world including Abram’s “Art Past – Art Present,” Gardner’s “Art Through the Ages” and Greg Clunas’s “Chinese Art” a volume in the “Oxford History of Art” series, Jane Farver’s Global Conceptualism: Points of Origin 1950s – 1980s (Queens Museum of Art Press) and Art Worlds in Dialogue (Museum Ludwig Press). In 2006, the Princeton University Press published “Persistence/Transformation: Text as Image in the Art of Xu Bing” a multidisciplinary study of Xu Bing’s landmark work “Book from the Sky.” In 2008, Professor Robert Harrist, Chair of Chinese Art at Columbia University, New York, began teaching a graduate seminar entitled “The Art of Xu Bing.” In 2011, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts published “Xu Bing: Tobacco Project” and Albion published “Xu Bing”. In 2012, the New York University Press published “Xu Bing and Chinese Contemporary Art”(edited by Hsingyuan Cao and Roger T. Ames) and Beijing Culture and Arts Press published “Xu Bing: the Birth of the Phoenixes”(edited by Zhou Zan).
In 1999, Xu Bing was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship in recognition of his “capacity to contribute importantly to society, particularly in printmaking and calligraphy.” In 2006, the Southern Graphics Council conferred on Xu Bing its lifetime achievement award in recognition of the fact that his “use of text, language and books has impacted the dialogue of the print and art worlds in significant ways.” In 2015, he was awarded the 2014 Department of State-Medal of Arts for his efforts to promote cultural understanding through his artworks. That April, he was appointed as an A.D. White Professor-at-large by Cornell University.

Master Xu Bing On CHALLENGING COMPLACENCY: FROM TRASH BINS TO MUSEUM EXHIBITS

Paul Thompson has been the Rector of the Royal College of Art (RCA), the number one university globally in art and design as ranked by the QS World University Rankings in 2015 and 2016, since 2009. The RCA is also the only art and design university in the UK operating exclusively at postgraduate level. 

Paul’s previous career highlights include his service as Director of the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum in New York (from 2001–9) and Director of the Design Museum in London (from 1993–2001). He is a Trustee of the Victoria and Albert Museum and is on the Ashmolean Museum Board of Visitors. He is also Adjunct Professor at the Institute for Global Health Innovation at Imperial College London. Paul completed a PhD at the University of East Anglia in 1987. Jonathan Taplin is Director Emeritus of the Annenberg Innovation Lab at the University of Southern California. He was a Professor at the USC Annenberg School from 2003-2016. Mr. Taplin began his entertainment career in 1969 as Tour Manager for Bob Dylan and The Band. In 1973 he produced Martin Scorsese's first feature film, Mean Streets, which was selected for the Cannes Film Festival. Between 1974 and 1996, Taplin produced 26 hours of television documentaries (including The Prize and Cadillac Desert for PBS) and 12 feature films including The Last Waltz, Until The End of the World, Under Fire and To Die For. His films were nominated for Oscar and Golden Globe awards and chosen for The Cannes Film Festival five times.
 
Mr. Taplin founded Intertainer and has served as its Chairman and CEO since June 1996. Intertainer was the pioneer video-on-demand company for both cable and broadband Internet markets. He holds two patents for video on demand technologies. Professor Taplin has consulted on Broadband technology for the President of Portugal, the Parliament of the Spanish state of Catalonia and the Government of Singapore.
 
In the 1980s Mr. Taplin acted as investment advisor to the Bass Brothers and then vice president of media mergers and acquisitions at Merrill Lynch.
 
He is a member of the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, sits on the International Advisory Board of the Singapore Media Authority, and is a fellow at the Center for Public Diplomacy. Mr. Taplin was appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to the California Broadband Task Force in January of 2007. He was named one of the 50 most social media savvy professors in America by Online College and one of the 100 American Digerati by Deloitte’s Edge Institute. He is a graduate of Princeton University.

In addition to her awarded dance career Jin Xing proved her versatile talent by establishing Shanghai Dance Festival, China's first festival for contemporary dance, as well as excelling in movies and theatre plays. Her achievements in the cultural field have received manifold recognition: two honorary doctor degrees in the UK and the French government's "Chevalier de l'Ordre des Lettres et des Artists", just to name a few.

Since 2012, Jin Xing has commanded a highly influential voice in public through her strong TV presence, among others as host of her own talk show, and through her huge fan base in the Chinese blogosphere, which reaches more than 9 million followers.

Jin Xing: ON THE "ENDLESS POWER OF AN ARTFUL SPIRIT"—FROM COURAGE TO TRUTH, FROM CHINA TO THE WEST

Meeting Norman Lear gave new meaning to the words “inspired” and “gratitude.” Within minutes of starting our conversation, his wisdom called me out on my difficulty being “over and done”—putting the past in its place and living for the present and future. He further fueled my gratitude for being a citizen of a democracy with the strong reminder of our power…but only if we vote…and our responsibility for the consequences of failing to vote. His stories of World War II set me inside the Air Force plane as bombs were dropping. He asked his iconic television characters Archie Bunker (All in the Family) and Maude (Maude) to confront today’s issues. He pulled no punches about his own views of President Trump. And he left me with this unforgettable message: we all matter.

"Norman Lear has enjoyed a long career in television and film, political and social activism, and philanthropy. At 95, he has no plans to retire. His re-imagined Cuban-American version of the iconic One Day at a Time was ranked among the Top Ten new shows of 2017, and its critically acclaimed second season is now streaming on Netflix. His weekly podcast, All of the Above with Norman Lear, is available on PodcastOne. He is also an executive producer on the award-winning Epix docuseries America Divided, now in its second season. Lear is currently in production on the pilot of Guess Who Died, an NBC comedy featuring the overlooked demographic of senior citizens.

 

Born in 1922 in New Haven, Connecticut, Lear flew 52 combat missions over Europe in World War II before beginning his television career. His classic shows of the 1970s and ‘80s — All in the Family, Maude, Good Times, The Jeffersons, Sanford and Son and Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, among others — collectively reached as many as 120 million viewers per week and are said to have transformed the American cultural landscape, bringing the social and political issues of the day into American living rooms for the first time. With the rise of the radical religious right, Lear put his career on hold in 1980 to found People For the American Way, the nonprofit organization that remains a relevant and effective force defending all aspects of the First Amendment.

 

Lear was among the first seven television pioneers inducted in 1984 into the Television Academy Hall of Fame. In 1999, President Clinton presented him with the National Medal of Arts, noting that “Norman Lear has held up a mirror to American society and changed the way we look at it.” His memoir, Even This I Get to Experience, was published in 2014, and the 2016 documentary Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You received an Emmy nomination as the representative program for the PBS American Masters series. In 2017, Lear received a Peabody Lifetime Achievement Award and was a Kennedy Center Honoree.

He is the father of six, the grandfather of four, and the husband of Lyn Davis Lear.”

Norman Lear: ON HUMOR, HUMANITY AND A HOPEFUL LOOK FORWARD

It is an honor to launch my Ethics & Truth  stream with my discussion with US Senator Russell Feingold on ethics, truth and more.  Whatever one’s politics, Senator Feingold offers a globally-minded perspective on some of today’s most challenging ethical questions—and on my personal mantra that integrating ethics into our decision-making tethers us to our humanity.

Russ Feingold: ON COMPROMISED TRUTH, CAMPAIGN FINANCE, LEADERSHIP AND MUCH MORE

Michael Signer is an award-winning former mayor, a corporate executive, and an author whose leadership in support of democratic values, and against extremism and intolerance, has been recognized around the nation. 

Mike served as Mayor of Charlottesville from 2016 to 2018, during the violent "Unite the Right" rally in August 2017. He and the people of Charlottesville received the Anti-Defamation League's Levenson Family Defender of Democracy Award in 2017. He has received senior appointments from three Virginia governors. 

He is the founder and chair of Communities Overcoming Extremism: the After Charlottesville Project, a project whose goal is to increase the capacity of leaders in the public and private sectors to address extremism through alliances and collective wisdom.  The project's sponsors and partners include the Ford Foundation, the Fetzer Institute, the Charles Koch Institute, the Center for American Progress, the Aspen Institute's Justice and Society Program, and Georgetown University's Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection. 

He is Vice President and General Counsel of WillowTree, Inc., a digital design agency with nearly 300 employees. He serves on the firm's executive team and directs many corporate and strategic matters, including the firm's Social Impact practice.

Mike's books include Demagogue: The Fight to Save Democracy from Its Worst Enemies (St. Martin's Press 2009) and Becoming Madison: The Extraordinary Origins of the Least Likely Founding Father (PublicAffairs 2015). He has written opinion pieces and essays for The Atlantic,The Washington Post, Time, Vox, Democracy, and The New Republic, among others.


He has held many leadership roles in nonprofits and civic organizations. He holds a Ph.D. in political science from U.C., Berkeley, where he was a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow; a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law; and a B.A. in politics, magna cum laude, from Princeton University, where he was a work-study student.

Mike Signer: On Charlottesville’s Tragic August 2017 Rally, Leadership, Hate… And Much More

David Hanson develops robots that are widely regarded as the world’s most human-like in appearance, in a lifelong quest to create true living, caring machines. To accomplish these goals, Hanson integrates figurative arts with cognitive science and robotics engineering, inventions novel skin materials, facial expression mechanisms, and collaborative developments in AI, within humanoid artworks like Sophia the robot, which can engage people in naturalistic face-to-face conversations and currently serve in AI research, education, therapy, and other uses.

Hanson worked as a Walt Disney Imagineer, both a sculptor and a technical consultant in robotics, and later founded Hanson Robotics. As a researcher, Hanson published dozens of papers in materials science, artificial intelligence, cognitive science, and robotics journals — including SPIE, IEEE, the International Journal of Cognitive Science, IROS, AAAI, AI magazine and more. He wrote two books including “Humanizing Robots” and received several patents. Hanson was featured in the New York Times, Popular Science, Scientific American, WIRED, BBC and CNN. He also received earned awards from NASA, NSF, Tech Titans’ Innovator of the Year, RISD, Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial, and the co-received the 2005 AAAI first place prize for open interaction of an AI system. Hanson holds a Ph.D. in Interactive Arts and Technology from the University of Texas at Dallas, and a BFA in film Animation video from the Rhode Island School of Design.

Claudia Rankine is the author of six collections of poetry, including Just Us: An American Conversation,  Citizen: An American Lyric and Don’t Let Me Be Lonely; three plays including HELP, which premiered in March of 2020 at The Shed, NYC,  The White Card, which premiered in February 2018 (ArtsEmerson/ American Repertory Theater) and was published by Graywolf Press in 2019, and Provenance of Beauty: A South Bronx Travelogue; as well as numerous video collaborations. She is also the co-editor of several anthologies including The Racial Imaginary: Writers on Race in the Life of the Mind (FENCE, 2015). In 2016, she co-founded The Racial Imaginary Institute (TRII). Among her numerous awards and honors, Rankine is the recipient of the Bobbitt National Prize for Poetry, the Poets & Writers’ Jackson Poetry Prize, and fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Lannan Foundation, the MacArthur Foundation, United States Artists, and the National Endowment of the Arts. Rankine teaches at Yale University as the Frederick Iseman Professor of Poetry. She lives in New Haven, Connecticut.
