Radio Mirchi Top Of The Hour

Title song for a serial directed by Nagabharana and sung by Sangeeta Katti. I composed three tunes, and this was the one that finally went on air. Shekhar and Karthik played the rhythms, while Gokul recorded and mixed the tracks. Nagabharana shot the serial, Aa Ooru Ee Ooru (That Village, This Village) near Davangere in central Karnataka. I went to the village, and then travelled to a more remote hamlet (can't remember the name) to listen to the music of the region. We woke up some musicians---it must have been around 9 pm---and they played for a bit. They used shehnai-style pipes a lot, which is why, when I made my tunes, I got Nagendrappa as a central part of the arrangement.  Nagendrappa plays the clarionet, whose sound is close to the shehnai's, and he has played for greats like OP Nayyar and Balappa Hukkeri. Nagabharana (director of such hit films as Akasmika and Janumada Jodi) hails from a theatre background, and loves folk idioms. I think we did this recording in 2007.
