Cormac’s new Polari label strides into a new year with the brazen energy and positivity we need right now. Following delicious discs from Kiwi and Zillas On Acid comes another delectable collection from Brazilian-in-Berlin ROTCIV.

A name synonymous with house, electronic disco, electro and Italo fusion for well over 10 years with his label Mister Mistery and releases on the likes of Full Pupp, Freeride Millenium, Luv Shack Records and Massimiliano Pagliara’s Funnovejere (to name a few), ROTCIV makes his debut on Polari with four more stunning cuts…

The beautifully chaotic title track, ‘PUR NRG’, is a sleazy, bass guitar thumping slab of dark cosmic matter, while ‘Fear’ ripples and glistens with the tension its name suggests. A layered beast built up around sinewy acid lines and a voluminous slug of a bassline. ‘Slipping’, the most euphoric moment in the selection, is a lavish rhythm laced with all kinds of twinkling rave echoes and sudden synth rushes. Finally we reach ‘XTSY’, which switches up the beats for full Italo subversion, and the perfect happy ending.

And there’ll be plenty more positive dispatches as Polari continue. Inspired by the undercover slang used in gay subcultures in the 19th century, Cormac’s label is dedicated to reflecting and representing a truly diverse and unsung contemporary collective. They speak the language you need to hear in the 21st century.

The Jolisa EP marks a significant shift in Luca dell’Orso’s sound. Although the electric hooks and rolling rhythms that characterise the dutchman’s signature style are still present, new avenues are explored. One notable change is the addition of vocals, care of the EP’s namesake: Jolisa. The opening, “Sixteen”, smoulders with a palpable intensity. Steady beats and textured pads support synth stabs as impassioned vocals recant a tale of past lessons. “Reach Out”, on the flip, is a different animal. Big and daring, chords chug next slicing snares while lyrics brim with hope. Two instrumental works balance the four tracker. “Nighttime” is perfectly sculpted with a soulful melody and clean percussion, vocoder lyrics giving a sorrowful slant to track. A true epic closes: “Tomorrow’s Already Here.” Bold keys and racing rhythms collide in this 80s steeped extravaganza, electro-disco and car chases in this incredible end. A defining EP from Luca dell’Orso.

A personal rework of one of my favorite classics ever, New Order's Blue Monday. 
I had mixed feelings the first time I heard it in some club. These dribbling bass drums were kind of weird to me. I couldn't really understand why people were mad when they recognized the track. Then, when I left, I realized the only melodies that were still around in my head were those of this pure classic. I started to listen to it and couldn't help but put it on hard rotation at home and in my studio. I became obsessed with it and even wanted to own the same hardware that was used to produce it (a few days later, I bought an Oberheim DX from some guy who claimed he signed with Virgin Records on the same day as Daft Punk). 
The original multitracks sessions are publicly available so I had to do something...so here we are. I wanted to give the track a more modern & Italo direction, while trying to respect the original vibe. 
Hope you'll enjoy it & spin it in front of passionate crowds. 
The artwork is a tribute to John Carpenter's Christine (1983), which was released a few months later.

The Queer Northern-Ireland born Cormac revered by peers, queers and artists alike is marking the end of the year with a first curated VA compilation under his belt on his multidisciplinary imprint Polari Records. The release is out 15th of November, 2022.

"No Tears In The Backroom Vol.1" is a heady 8-track VA featuring the already established Polari affiliates as well as alluring newcomers to the label. Cormac‘s Polari Compilation serves as an unpretentious boisterous sonic outing and it offers a fun and loving home to the Polari chosen family.

"This is the first Polari Compilation and I'm happy to present such a strong debut. The title is in reference to a lyric from my track "Sparks". Sometimes I receive tracks that don't quite fit an EP or story, so the tracks featured are in one way stand alone tracks, but they also make sense as part of a family. They are a family of Polari rogues I guess, rogues that I love a lot." - says Cormac.

Although featuring varied vibrant tracks from a diverse palette of artists, No Tears In The Backroom Vol. 1 remains cohesive throughout. The compilation includes contributions from Davis, Brynjolfur, Timothy Clerkin, Hard Ton, REES, ROTCIV, Sean Den and Budino.

Inspired in no small part by his recent extended set at clubbing institution, fabric, Lightspeed EP showcases the various sides of Alex' studio output. Out 18th November, the three-tracker explores acid-led neon adventures on ‘Fantasy’ and channels Cowley-esque synth sleaze on ‘Harry's Freaking Out’, before closing out with Ed Banger influenced ‘Lightspeed’.
