Givens Like the Sky

I look for what’s real, in turning the page …
In the gold of the setting sun, do we find any answers?
But to protect those sacred moments, that elevate us from the banter.
We can find our stories, the ones that can console,
It’s the givens that heal us, show us where we want to go.

It’s with the givens in life like the sky,
That we realize where meanings lie,
Birds tussling at the feeder,
Silhouettes that make us sigh.

Being present in the natural givens,
Orange with the gray extending,
Colors of our lives scrape against each other,
Luminous in light that’s bending.

And my arms are open wide, to catch and become that fire,
Igniting what’s most vital, the heat that keeps us alive.

When seeking out these givens with intention,
They are there for us to take,
To relish in their expression,
Of what’s real, the future we can make.
