iam8bit & Materia Collective are ecstatic to present Hero of Time, an officially licensed, one-hour arrangement album based on Koji Kondo’s dynamic, epic and absolutely gorgeous score to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Freshly – and exclusively – recorded by the 64-player Slovak National Symphony Orchestra for this very album, Hero of Time breaths new life into classic Ocarina of Time score, previously only available from its Nintendo 64 sound chip origins.

The album is arranged & composed by Eric Buchholz, a maestro of video game concert tours across the globe, including The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Symphony (plus the bonus CD that shipped with Skyward Sword!!), The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses, and many more.

The stunning album artwork was created by Ryan Brinkerhoff, full of subtle visual detail and interactive pieces, including a die-cut Ocarina window on the jacket’s front, a majestic gatefold featuring both Light or Dark sides, and, of course – the finishing crescendo of a shimmering, gold foil-stamped triforce on the back.

Contra OST

Contra Original Video Game Soundtrack

Data Discs have collaborated with the legendary composer, Yuzo Koshiro to bring us the soundtrack from The Revenge of Shinobi, an illustrious and timeless composition from the 16-bit era. The music is from the 1989 game and is a unique hybrid combining Western dance music with Japanese overtones.

This was the first piece which Koshiro created for SEGA. Using the concepts and techniques he developed with Shinobi, Koshiro went on to create the memorable soundtrack for the Streets of Rage trilogy which would be familiar to many childhoods.

Given the limited hardware of the SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis, Koshiro’s efforts on The Revenge of Shinobi is a testament to the ingenuity and melodic dexterity of the composer.

The record comes packaged in a 425sgm outer sleeve, with heavyweight inner sleeve and featuring original artwork sourced from the SEGA archives in Japan on double-sided lithographic prints.

The Revenge Of Shinobi OST - The Shinobi

Mondo has created a proper vinyl pressing to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Konami’s Contra game series. This is a release of the original soundtrack to the 1992 hit, Contra III: The Alien Wars for the Super Nintendo/Famicom.

The Alien Wars was the sequel to the original Contra and Super Contra, bringing the classic run and shoot game into the 16-bit era. The composers took full advantage of the powerful audio capabilities of the Super Nintendo by producing longer looping sequences with complex time signatures and percussion patterns.

The end result is intense, chaotic and perfectly suited to the spirit of the game, while still obeying the pacing and structure of video game music.

Composer Grant Kirkhope (Banjo-Kazooie, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark) is an auteur of aural whimsy, bringing his soundtracks a profound sense of playfulness that inspires smiles to anyone within earshot. Viva Piñata isn’t just fun – it’s a theatrical opus that, at times, can feel like a stage production of The Nutcracker.

Listen to a few tracks, then imagine these piñata creatures on their tiptoes in leotards – a silly thought, but makes perfect sense. The music is orchestral, fluttery and sometimes big, but also feels very “tangible,” which is why artist Ashton Dame applied cut-paper techniques to the cover (using actual scissors and glue; they’re piñatas, after all!).

Toby Fox’s original score accentuates the odyssey of UNDERTALE beautifully – a nostalgic, chip-riffed plummet down a 16-bit rabbit hole. Allusions to classic RPGs like Earthbound and Final Fantasy are certainly obvious, but the magic of UNDERTALE’s music reverberates gloriously in all its retro references, deftly crafting an entirely unique emotional identity. Note that the music is not in Japanese and the track-listing is consistent with the US release.

The idea of a cinematic game may seem common nowadays, but it was nascent in the 90's - and when Hideo Kojima and his team developed Snake's first three dimensional mission they took full advantage of the medium, crafting a soundtrack as epic in scope as the story itself.

The iconic main theme is full of unexpected worldly flourishes including latin rhythms. The rest of the score is filled with echoing, pulsing percussion, brooding choruses, bright synth melodies. It's truly one of a kind, while fitting perfectly side-by-side with other legendary Playstation titles of the era like Final Fantasy 7, and Silent Hill in their scope and genre blending influences.

SNK and Brave Wave Productions are proud to reveal their fourth collaboration, Generation Series 010: Samurai Shodown in vinyl format. Known as Samurai Spirits in Japan and originally released for NEOGEO in 1993, Samurai Shodown is one of SNK’s most classic and timeless 2D fighting games, featuring fast-paced gameplay, beautiful graphics and catchy music.

The soundtrack, composed by Norio Tate, achieves the difficult task of producing traditional Japanese sound comprised of instruments such as the shamisen and shachihata while maintaining a distinct NEOGEO vibe. The result is a beloved soundtrack that is simultaneous timeless, yet historical.

There are two variations of the soundtrack: an AES version and a NEOGEO CD arranged version. Samurai Shodown The Definitive Soundtrack will include both versions, featuring the entirety of the original soundtracks remastered and restored to the highest possible quality, in collaboration and consultation with SNK.

This edition features a booklet containing artwork from the SNK archives, in addition to in-depth liner notes written by some of the original creators of the game, including series creator Yasushi Adachi, as well as Tate. In addition, the booklet will feature an in-depth essay by Greg Kasavin of Supergiant Games on the impact of Samurai Shodown on video game culture and history.
