Benja Schlez is a guitarist, composer, arranger, producer, university lecturer... - there is hardly a musical field that the Mannheim, Germany native has not yet entered. After studying (jazz guitar, composition, arrangement and popular music) in New York and Berlin, he became a member of the hip hop/rock formation Mr. Ed jumps the Gun in 1994, which landed one of the big hits of the later 90s, especially with the song "Wild Thang", tours all over Europe. From pop back to jazz, in 1998 he played the album "Wilde Schöne Welt"  with the jazz band Willekes Wille - the “most amazing jazz album of 1998,” as SPIEGEL headlined it at the time.

Since 1998, Benja Schlez has also been devoting more time to new original compositions and working as a producer. He tours with Sigi Busch to South Africa and the Czech Republic and composes numerous (title) songs for film and theater. He also writes commissioned compositions for Martini and Bacardi. In 2001 he received an exclusive author contract with Warner Chappel Publishing. In 2002 he composed, arranged and played for the Bavaria Film production “Bibi Blocksberg” (most successful German film in 2002), and also composed the music for advertising films for global corporations such as Coca-Cola. In 2004 he produced the Sat 1 casting show “Star Search” with Perky Park Studios Berlin; In 2005 he became a member of the Berlin pop band PAULA, gave numerous concerts with them and recorded two studio albums with the band.

Benja Schlez has been playing regularly as a live guitarist at the Theatre in Zurich since 2015 and, until 2019, composed film music for various productions by the film production company “Gebrüder Beetz”, among others. Since 2001 he has also been running his own recording studio in Berlin (Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg) with high-quality equipment. The record productions of PAULA (Sony), Guther (Morr Music), Thimo Sander (Tapete Records), Mr. Nilsson (Kook Rec) and Lula (Eastwest) were created here.

Benja Schlez is releasing his first solo album, Grenzhof, on the Poly Unique label in February.

Benja Schlez ist Gitarrist, Komponist, Arrangeur, Produzent, Hochschul-Dozent… - kaum ein musikalisches Feld, das der gebürtige Mannheimer noch nicht betreten hat. Nach dem Studium (Jazzgitarre, Komposition, Arrangement und Popularmusik) in New York und Berlin wird er 1994 Mitglied der Hip Hop/Rock Formation Mr. Ed jumps the Gun, die vor allem mit "Wild Thang" einen der großen Hits der späteren 90er landet und durch ganz Europa tourt. Vom Pop zurück zum Jazz spielt er 1998 mit der Jazzband Willekes Wille das Album Wilde schöne Weltein – das „erstaunlichste Jazzalbum 1998“, wie damals der SPIEGEL titelt.

Seit 1998 widmet sich Benja Schlez außerdem verstärkt neuen Eigenkompositionen und arbeitet als Produzent. Er tourt mit Sigi Busch nach Südafrika und Tschechien, komponiert zahlreiche (Titel-)Songs für Film und Theater. Ebenso schreibt er Auftragskompositionen für Martini und Bacardi. 2001 bekommt er einen Autorenexklusivvertrag mit Warner Chappel Publishing. 2002 komponiert, arrangiert und spielt er für die Bavaria Film-Produktion „Bibi Blocksberg“ (erfolgreichster deutscher Film 2002), komponiert außerdem die Musik für Werbefilme von Weltkonzernen wie Coca-Cola. 2004 produziert er die Sat 1 Casting-Show „Star Search“ mit Perky Park Studios Berlin; 2005 wird er Mitglied der Berliner Popformation PAULA, gibt mit ihr zahlreiche Konzerte und nimmt mit der Band zwei Studioalben auf.

Seit 2015 spielt Benja Schlez regelmäßig am Schauspielhaus Zürich als Live-Gitarrist und komponierte bis 2019 Filmmusik für diverse Produktionen der Filmproduktionsfirma „Gebrüder Beetz“ u.a.. Seit 2001 betreibt er außerdem ein eigenes Tonstudio in Berlin (Prenzlauer Berg) mit hochwertigem Equipment. Hier entstanden u.a. die Plattenproduktionen von PAULA (Sony), Guther (Morr Music), Thimo Sander (Tapete Records), Herr Nilsson (Kook Rec) und Lula (Eastwest).

Mit Grenzhof veröffentlicht Benja Schlez im Februar sein erstes Solo-Album beim Label Poly Unique.
