The Sleeping Tune is a beautiful haunting air written by Gordon Duncan a short time before his untimely death. Gordon is considered to be one of the best bagpipers Scotland ever produced. The Noose and the Gillies is a smashing Reel written by Canadian bagpiper Perry Gauthier. A special thanks to Perry Gauthier for agreeing to let us record this great tune. The arrangement is inspired by Wolfstone, a Scottish hard-rock/trad band.

In this original composition, we approach the topic of addiction, hunger and
homelessness. Despite the heart-breaking stories and lives of pain, there are also many legend-worthy stories of success. This is our message of courage and strength to those who struggle daily.

This is our rendition of a traditional song about wasting one’s youth and love on
someone whose heart is somewhere else; in this case, a young woman, who despite the warning of others, commits her youth and love to someone who is in love with being at sea and may never return to her.

4. Eilean a’ Cheò – Traditional (Arranged by Fiùran)

Eilean a’ Cheò (The Misty Isle or Isle of Skye) is our tribute to Mairi Mhòr (Mary
MacPherson) (March 10, 1821 – November 7, 1898) who was a Scottish Gàidhlig poet from the Island of Skye. Most of her poems focused on the poignant Highland Clearances and land struggle. Mairi Mhòr overcame persecution and adversity, learned English, and rose up to become a notable singer, poet and strong advocate for the Scottish independence movement at that time.

3. An Unjust Farewell to Erin– Traditional (Arranged by Fiùran)

This set begins with our original presentation of the Ùrlar (ground) of The Unjust Incarceration Pìobaireachd (classical pipe music) written by Iain Dall MacKay in the 1600s and is based on the ancient Campbell canntaireachd (a singing method of teaching bagpipes). It is believed to be about Neil son of MacKay who was wrongfully accused of murder and subsequently imprisoned on Bass Rock for nine years in 1437 by King James I. Mackay eventually escaped and was known thereafter as Neil Vass. Legend has it that in later years, he became a leading figure in the MacKay clan. To celebrate this victory in song, we pair this pìobaireachd with Farewell Erin, a lively reel. Special thanks to Olivier Verville, one of Randy’s youth bagpiping students and Pipe Major of Thuirle Thairle (Commotion) Youth Pipes & Drums band.

This song is our tribute to the legendary ancient Celtic character Fionn mac Cumhaill (Finn MacCool) and the proverbs of the ancient Fianna. Legend has it that Fionn, a magical giant, built the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland so that he could travel to Scotland without getting his feet wet. It is said that Fionn didn’t die but instead lay sleeping in a cave where he would one day arise when the hunting horn of the Fianna is sounded three times.

Fiùran (Sapling) is a female fronted Canadian Celtic hard rock band based in Ottawa, Canada who bridge the ancient Celtic world to the modern world by taking listeners on a journey through time.
