'Crocodile Tears' was one of the first songs we wrote as a band, back when the first Royal Blood record was playing at student clubs... well, at least in Lincoln. This conjured up the scene from School of Rock, where Dewey teaches the kids to vent and use their frustrations to write music. I used this as fuel for a song that was beginning to take form, but I had no focal point for these feelings. Instead I created a character, an amalgam of all the qualities I disliked, and sang about that. The song started as quite basic, but as we played it live and the band evolved the song grew into it's own. It became a vehicle for improvisation and a hard-hitting set-ender; this is something we have tried to retain in this recording. The song you hear was recorded live in the room with minimal overdubs for lead guitar and vocals. This adds to the palpable rawness and energy in the track.

Crocodile Tears

This four piece rock band originally began with brothers Isaac and Aidan Howell performing as the duo ‘Howl’ in June of 2019, growing to include old schoolmates Callum and Lewis to form Skelephant. Heavily inspired by the classic guitar music of Led Zeppelin and Hendrix, as well as more contemporary bands such as the Strokes, Parcels, and Queens of the Stone Age, Skelephant have a talent for writing memorable songs with an ear for the creativity needed for fresh material on the well trodden path of the rock genre.
