CANBLASTER X-MAS PIANO MIXTAPE Vol. 1 - WINTER IN JAPAN

Chasing Waves is the rhapsodic soundtrack conceived for artist Alex Israel’s exhibition Sunset Coast Drive (Greene Naftali Gallery, New York, May 17 - June 25, 2022). 

Composed by Grammy award-winning producer and songwriter Jeff Bhasker, it incorporates samples from radio hits, studio sound effects, as well as excerpts from Israel’s 2019 work Solo, a video installation in which the artist's holographic avatar performs a melancholic composition on alto saxophone. 

The track is divided into phases, each a reference to a different historically Los Angeles sound: from The Beach Boys and the singer-songwriters of Laurel Canyon, to roller-disco, dreamlike 80s synth and the paired down piano of Randy Newman.

Solid Steel (11th May) In Hour 1 we are pleased to welcome Superorganism with a concept mix based around music with themes from sea to space. Starting with 'Jungle Waters' by Sam Gellaitry, 'Sea calls me home' by Julia Holter and 'Swim Good' by Frank Ocean, the mix goes on to feature 'Stratus' by Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, 'Deep Blue Day' by Brian Eno and 'Starman' by David Bowie. Their self-titled debut album came out in March on Domino and you can catch the multinational eight-piece group at festivals throughout Europe this summer, before heading to North America and back for a full European tour in Autumn. They had this to say about their mix;
"Follow the whale through a journey through song from the depths of the Ocean up into outer space towards the Sun."
