Anjunadeep warmly welcomes back Joseph Ray for the standalone release of his striking single  ‘Changing Lanes’.

First heard on flagship compilation Anjunadeep 13, ‘Changing Lanes’ stands out for its all-enveloping sound design, including a distinct cavernous bass line that has become characteristic of Ray’s solo work. Keeping to his penchant for journey-like compositions, Ray has included the eight-minute original mix on the single.

The single follows Ray’s 2021 collaborative album ‘Leave the Bones’, written and recorded with Haitian band Lakou Mizik. Celebrated by the likes of NPR, Pitchfork, BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Worldwide FM, Billboard, and The Times, ‘Leave the Bones’ laid bare the rich musical culture of Haiti, and exhibited the beauty, hope and resilience of the island nation’s people. The album will see an adjoining feature-length film released later this year.

Tash's Movement Recordings opens the new year by welcoming Allan McLoud to the label for his debut EP. Scottish-born, Zurich-based producer/DJ Allan McLoud has been involved in electronic music for well over three decades. The late eighties found Allan fascinated with the synth-driven styles which quickly found prominence during that era; a sound which led him to begin producing breakbeat influenced electronic music, before eventually finding his true passion in trance. It was a sound which would lead him to Germany where he began DJing in the country's north and building a catalog full of releases supported by the top DJs of the time. Fast forward to present day and Allan now calls Zurich home where he has rejuvenated his studio repertoire with the sounds of progressive house. His energetic melodic take on the genre has served him well, landing key releases for John OO Fleming's Joof Aura, Droid9, LuPS Records and Transensations. Now, getting 2024 underway with one of the biggest releases of his career, Allan makes his Movement Recordings debut with 'Solitude', alongside a remix from NOIYSE PROJECT. 

The release concludes with NOIYSE PROJECT making his label debut with the lone interpretation of 'Solitude'. Rising out of Sri Lanka's progressive house scene, NOIYSE PROJECT took inspiration from the likes of Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren to become one of the genre's most sought after artists. Releases via The Soundgarden and Sudbeat Music sit as discography highlights, while he has continued to delight fans with his impeccable taste and programming skills as a DJ. 2022 proved to be a breakout year for the Colombo resident. On the strength of projects for his Till The Sunrise imprint, NOIYSE PROJECT rose to Beatport's Best Selling Progressive House Hype artist, a position which has been reserved for just a select few across the last two calendar years. Now, getting 2024 underway in style, NOIYSE PROJECT makes his Movement Recordings debut with a huge remix of 'Solitude'. The Sri Lankan's distinctive style sounds as impressive as ever, as he takes the smooth melodic vibe of the original and re-models it into his groovy, percussive sound. Rippling bass and sprawling atmospherics are the order of the day, ultimately paving the way to a glowing, fuzzed out interlude, which eventually breaks off into a thumping drop and absolutely enormous finale.

First appearing on Meanwhile in mid-2023 with a 3-track extravaganza of epic proportions, Tantum now returns to the label with another musical triptych in the shape of "Contact High / This is Real / Scatter". A production career that began with a high-profile debut on EIN2, German producer, Tantum, has made a name for himself blurring the boundaries between progressive house and melodic techno. Subsequent releases for Juicebox Music, Mango Alley and Guy J's Lost & Found have put Tantum firmly on the underground dance map. May 2023's "Secondary / Suan Pan / Narko" was a notable highlight on GMJ & Matter's imprint, while a remix of the duo's "Time to Space" a few months later showcased another side to his production credentials. Opening the EP, "Contact High" is a chunky rhythmic jewel that glistens with iridescent light as reversed melodies and rippling arpeggio build powerfully against a driving dancefloor beat and body-swaying percussive groove. Hypnotic and vibrant, a rasping bassline and pitched oscillator motif create a mesmerising intensity that builds through the breakdown before dropping back into the club-ready groove in the second half. The aptly titled "Scatter" impresses with its angular beats and liberally placed fragmented effects. Muted arpeggios and mid-range motifs infuse the middle sections as a searing glissando lead line rises and falls with analogue-filtered intensity. The combination of melody at the breakdown then heralds the arrival of the dominant kick to regain rhythmic vitality in the third movement. The final track sees "This is Real" delight with hits wood-block percussive cadence and syncopated bass sequence. Revelling in an array of complementary synth lines, pitched oscillators create an easy free-flowing character that is both innovative and dynamic. Weaving gently throughout in coruscating patterns, it builds intensity as the rhythmic gravitas hits its heights post-breakdown to inspiring and striking effect.

As you may notice, most of the "electronic", "dance", music I listen to does not feature spoken \ sung language (there are exceptions). Basically, that's because I'm a science enthusiast. Whilst obviously, electronic music is, well, just that, based on electronics \ mathematics, that fact seems to be lost on many producers of music that use music to advertise their personal beliefs.  Is, for example, the vibrating string of a guitar (frequency), an "art-form" or, a vibrating object? The subjective perspective may hear "art", or "spirits", or "whatever", however, objectively \ physics, music is a physical construct (& we humans play \ construct it). Although, being more in touch with reality only matters if you want to know how things actually work.

My epistemological perspective.

The Sun in the sky, also known as the closest star to planet Earth, shines by forcing together hydrogen atoms (into helium). This is fundamental physics. Basic scientific knowledge. Although quantum mechanics, the fundamental mechanics of the universe, is not, yet, fully understood. Hence why physicists use terms such as "dark matter \ energy". Because gravity, the movements of planet's, etc, infers that there are elementary particles that have yet to be discovered. Either that, or general relativity requires modifying.

However, what does all this science mean in regards to what people believe? Ultimately, it doesn't matter, to matter \ physical objects, what people want to be true or not. But, it does, of course, make a huge difference  if we understand, or not (e.g., how a machine works. How the human body \ physiology, functions). The Sun fuses together hydrogen atoms, the Sun, just about, powers all life on Earth. Believe that or not, belief isn't how the Sun works \ functions \ shines.

So, learn some science, and understand far more about life and the universe in general, than those that do not (that's the way it is). Also, homo sapiens are the masters of tool use, for example, a computer is a tool. It's how we use those tools, for the betterment of humanity, or not, that is more or less intelligent tool use.
