Dr. Sandra Hunter specializes in studying muscle fatigability and endurance performance. She has published research on age differences between the sexes among elite marathon runners that has been written about in Runner's World, the New York Times and many other publications.

Changing the System with Amber May

Marquette Theatre student Malaina Moore was inspired to write the play White Privilege after seeing a Facebook post that sparked discussion about what the term means to different people. Her play examines how the color of one’s skin can lead to a very different experience of the world. 

In this discussion, White Privilege assistant director A.J. Magoon, Comm '18, interviews Moore about the making of her work.

White Privilege Takes the Stage

Father Ryan Duns, S.J., became an accidental YouTube star when he started uploading Irish TinWhistle music lessons for a class he taught at Fordham University. Today, his channel has had more than 5 million views and he regularly hears from viewers around the world. 

This fall he comes to Marquette as a new Theology professor. He has a challenge for Marquette students: Take your earbuds out and appreciate the sounds of the world around you.

The Jesuit YouTube Star

Kamille Fritz, Nursing '18, partnered with men's lacrosse coach Joe Amplo and coaches from the near west side to bring a nationally-recognized violence prevention program to Milwaukee. 

The Coaching Boys into Men program helps change social norms and behaviors regarding dating violence. Fritz helped run the program as the Center for Peacemaking's Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Awareness Program Coordinator for the Near West Side Partners team. 

In the program, 15 male sports coaches from the Near West Side attended the event where they learned how to use a playbook: A card series with 12 topics and conversations to be had over the course of the season. Coach Amplo attended in support and shared his experience with coaching and the major mentorship role of coaches. 

The program emphasizes healthy relationships, respect for others and the power of sports. Coaching Boys into Men is one of five recognized interventions by the CDC with data supporting its effectiveness in violence prevention.

Preventing Sexual Violence with Education

Jaison Banks, Arts '18, is a visual artist, award-winning student biology researcher and Army ROTC graduate who is commissioned in the U.S. Army as a Chemical Officer to defend against chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear warfare and hazards. He is also the co-creator with his friend Ryan Barelli of the "I Too, Am MU" documentary, which amplifies and shares the honest experiences of students of color on Marquette's campus.
