And like the dog
Runs freely there…
That is his way - he doesn’t care
And I'm not free
Though I once was
And I'm not here to disagree
The dog runs freely through the street
Through autumn winds and winter deep
And I'm not free
And maybe never will
And that gives me the real chill

It makes me think that I could have…
Could have been free
Not just a myth
They told us when we were  still young
And couldn’t tell the good from wrong
And we will see… oh we will see!

And like the dog
He rants, he shouts
If any jerk would challenge loud
And he is free
He always was
Not so are we
Through haze of lime and light
I start to see…
And in the night
My soul will burn and writhe
And I am not free
And so I’ll die!

It makes me think that I could have
Could have been taught kind and serene
To be the better dog
Among the humans in the fog
And maybe I could see…
And that is quite a lot

And like the dog
Runs freely there…
That is his way  he doesn’t care
And he is free

And now I’m here

The streets go on…

The lights fall soft on her silvered hair,
A shimmer caught in the midnight air.

Her laughter drifts through the crowded room,
And every note cuts through the gloom.

And though the music pulls her near,
Her eyes find mine — I disappear.

The years between us melt away,

She’s more — she’s love, she’s life again.

I sit and watch, a silent prayer,
To keep her dancing, keep her there.

And though she twirls with someone new,
