Stu Henderson, a pillar in the Florence, Oregon community, is displaying his art at Austentatious Gallery in Highway 101. But well beyond that, Stuart is being recognized as a leader of social justice and how some of his art, as well as his involvement in the founding of KXCR and his contributions to the City have made him a pillar of the community. The show, recorded mostly at the Gallery opening, gives those in attendance the opportunity to share their thoughts about Stu. With Stu in attendance, all the Henderson's there to honor him.

Dina Pavlis has lived and played on the Oregon Coast for over 20 years. She is an avid hiker, outdoor enthusiast, nature photographer and volunteer interpretive ranger with the US forest Service. She also produces and hosts Beyond Your Front Door Northwest, a coastal adventure radio show that airs weekly in the Pacific Northwest.

I live on the other side of the continent but she has piqued my curiosity big time for a part of the country I had known little about.

Ilya studies neuronal circuits of motivation, emotion, and learning at the Department of Neuroscience at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. But this conversation about how one neuroscientist explores the world -- and why --  is much more nuanced and thoughtful than his position description suggests. 

I didn't anticipate our conversation would take us to the importance of neuroscience and information seeking for the fate of humanity, or to how achieving an "engineer's understanding" of the brain could be helpful for those living with mental health challenges like OCD.

Around the Campfire's Classic Rock Holiday Favorites

Established in 2021, the Oregon Origins Project serves as a dynamic platform for indigenous culture bearers and invites artists from diverse backgrounds to craft new works inspired by the state's rich origins. Generously supported by grants from Ronni Lacroute, the Regional Arts and Culture Council, and Reed College, the project embodies a commitment to artistic innovation and cultural exploration.

The program's second event, "Oregon Origins Project II: Seven Wonders," is a musical journey through Oregon's wild places " from Steens Mountain to the Oregon Dunes, and many stops in between. The musical segment is followed by an enlightening geological presentation by geologist Ian Madin.

Join Dina Pavlis in the studio with Oregon Origins Director and Composer, Matthew Packwood. Learn how Oregon's diverse and wild landscape served as the motivation and inspiration for "Seven Wonders," which took two years to complete. Musical excerpts from the event are included in this episode.

An encore performance of "Oregon Origins Project II: Seven Wonders" takes place in Florence, Oregon, on Feb. 9, 2024. Admission is FREE. It is open to the public and no tickets are required.

In addition to the music and geologic presentation, Florence attendees will be treated to an indigenous cultural presentation by Jesse Beers and Patricia Whereat Phillips, culture bearers of the Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw Indians.

Presented in Florence by Travel Lane County and proudly sponsored by the City of Florence and the Oregon Coast Visitors Association, this event is a special encore performance acclaimed event held at Reed College in Portland, Oregon, in May 2023.

Oregon Origins Project II: Seven Wonders

Everything Dog is a six-part series in which certified dog trainers share information about adopting, training, and enjoying our furry friends. 

Proper socialization and exercise are critically important for all puppies and dogs. In this episode, trainers share about why socialization and exercise are important and how to provide the proper type of socialization for puppies. Additionally, trainers share about physical and mental exercise for dogs, why both are important, and the error behind the old adage, "a tired dog is a good dog."
