For the past two years, we have, like most everyone, tried to figure out how to be in this moment.  It’s been a conversation of many episodes focused on a central question: As resistant as we may feel to many of the conditions of the present, how do we show up for this life, as it is, right now?

In May 2021 my colleague and friend Eric Anthamatten was murdered.  He was 43 years old.  Eric and I taught incarcerated students.  Prison education was Eric’s vocation and his dissertation—Eric had a PhD in philosophy from The New School—traces how themes of incarceration and pedagogy thread through the history of philosophy.  Eric inspired me as an educator and mentored me in my prison abolition journey.  I miss him deeply.
