Years ago, I had the great privilege of visiting Haida Gwaii while touring the Northern BC folk circuit. During the week between two gigs, my dear friend Jane Hewes and I both fell under the spell of this most special place. In those days, we settlers knew the archipelago as the Queen Charlotte Islands. Big Forestry was pushing to log the old-growth forests of Clayoquot Sound and South Moresby. All of this came together for me as I wrote this love song for Haida Gwaii, for Charlotte, for Mother Earth.  Recorded live at the Regina Folk Festival (CBC)

CBC national radio show, Sunday Morning, commissioned this satirical song from Bev Ross 30 years ago, when Peter Pocklington traded Wayne Gretzky from the Edmonton Oilers to the LA Kings. Bev Ross wrote the song, played piano and sang, with Ian Birse on bass and guitar. City in Pain was broadcast Sunday, Aug 14 , 1988.
